Bush hates that Saddam was not killed when he was captured....
At least, I get that impression. It's more important to him that Saddam be secured than that Iraq be secure, in my opinion. After all, he had a personal thing for Saddam. Any place that Saddam will be transferred will be under American guard, you can bet on that. Bush cannot take the chance that Saddam will escape or that someone will break him out. So Allawi will have to make a deal with Bush. Yes, we will turn him over to you but we will maintain security for him until he goes on trial. Saddam is safer where he is now. His odds are shortened tremendously if he is given to the Iraqis. The CIA cannot permit him to be under the control of the Iraqis - and neither can George W Bush. He will be "assassinated"....

1. Don't you mean . . .
Bush is pissed that the Kurds turned over a live body rather than a dead corpse?

And the Kurds are paying right now for their impertinence.

2. If Saddam talks, Pappy Bush will be implicated
Reagan and Bush Sr. will be seen for what they are, traitors to the nation.

4. I do, too, but from a different angle ...
Bush WANTED Saddam alive originally because the "trial" during the Summer was going to blow the Democrats out of the news cycle AND provide ex post facto justification for the War.

But now Bush is stuck with a living Saddam. And no trial. And a situation where the news cycle seems to favor the Dems in every circumstance.

BTW, I think Saddam has better chance at both death AND freedom if Allawi takes custody of Saddam. Allawi could just summarily execute Saddam, or they could cut a deal for the billions Saddam probably has stashed away.

I hate it that Saddam's alive because whether you opposed the war or supported it, progress in Iraq now requires forward thinking, not backward thinking.

5. Would Bush have had his head stuffed and mounted?
When all hell breaks out in July the Iraqi government will have Saddam make a statement for a return to order in exchange for something.
