Do you own or rent?

I know this poll seems a bit "lounge-esque", but I am asking seriously, and am just wondering as a cross-section, what we're like.

I personally rent in SF, where very few people could afford to buy today...

There wasn't room for "homeless", and there may actually be a few out there. Sorry.

1. Renting is a subject I keep bringing up

in terms of social issues. IE: Affordable housing for buyers AND renters. I heard there was a drive to cut off funding for section 8 voucher programs. If that's true and the cutting back of social security moneies, a wholelot of people are going to be in some serious bad straits........more homeless perhaps. How low can the neocons go I wonder?!

2. I live for free in my sisters garage.

I exchange babysitting for room and board. The garage has a little room with carpet and drywalled walls so it isn't that bad. I pee outside, and usually eat what can be cooked in a toaster oven.

I have a one-bedroom apartment provided to me as part of my job compensation.

4. What's "modest"?

I voted "modest home". It's about 80 years old (the old part...the other half is about 20 years old). It's in a great Cleveland suburb and sits on a semi-wooded acre of land, but it's only 1950 sq. ft.

5. It really depends where you live.

An 80-year old 2 bedroom house in San Francisco is not modest, since it could cost a million dollars.

A brand new 3 bedroom house on a big lot in a nice neighborhood with all the amenities could be $70~9o thousand in my hometown of El Paso, but that's modest there.

Just use your own discretion.

6. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank

owns my home, and kindly allows me to occupy and maintain it for a modest monthly payment.

That may change in about 25 years or so.
