1. It's unbelievable. He's getting his speech read TO him
and then he repeats it, phrase after phrase. It's UNBELIEVABLE. Tune in.

21. Same thing on CNN international and Euronews
But I think there is a simple explanation: We're hearing the feed intended for the translators (The Speech is translated simultaneously on the German news networks).

137. I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS SINCE SEPTEMBER 11TH 2001
I heard it on September 11th, in NYC, on ABC, in the evening speech in the Oval Office. Audio error and you could hear the guy feeding him his lines. A friend in Boston heard it too.

its the same feed, same flubs, same phrasing - just distorted and out of sync. What seems like an "emperor has no clothes" moment was just an audio fuckup.

98. for show-speeches this is actually pretty normal
Especially if it is like this one: speakers in two languages, real-time translations into almost all major world languages.
Either the Translators get the speech beforehand or they get an audio feed a few seconds ahead (either by delayed broadcast or someone else reading it to them).

My theory is as follows: the Networks bought the transmission from French TV. The French station mixed up the audio feeds and transmitted the translation-helper along with the main audio. Probably they got the speech before Bush started, but not in time to translate it (to prevent leaks).

90. You guys are missing the glitch.
Live doesn't always mean LIVE. Overseas transmissions are often on a delay. You can quite clearly watch the delay when some reporters use videophones from Iraq.

I'm not a techie...so we need to have someone with mroe knowledge explain how this can happen. But I swear to me it was his voice. Not someone immitating him either. It was the Chimp.

105. Although I believe in a simple glitch,
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 01:26 PM by Kellanved
I have to add: Bush had the Person reading his speech, Chirac did not.
(I watched American/International (CNNi) European (Euronews), German and French networks - same effect on each of them )).

I think it is a glitch introduced at the French station actually providing the pictures/sound.

37. I think it's a simultaneous translation or a glitch in the satellite feed.
The same thing seems to be happening with Chirac. Plus, if you listen carefully, the voice apparently reading *'s speech to him sounds suspiciously like * himself.

Well, maybe there is, but that's beside the point.

It almost certainly has to do with the translators, but only because they were broadcast also.

This is hillarious, and an embarassment at the same time.
They accidentally fed Bushs' earpiece feed into the audio? Maybe because they needed that setup for translating Chiracs' statements.

Did Bush just call Gregory "Mon cher"?

Isn't that a term of endearment that may be somewhat inappropriate on many levels.

If he would just come out of the closet maybe he wouldn't feel the need to blow up 3rd world countries.

before it was fixed. That is to say, we heard one track of audio slightly before the video-synced main channel was broadcast. There was no difference between the pre-echo on smirky's monologue and that which occurred with the first reporter's question, except the echo was in the reporter's voice "before" he spoke rather than chimpy's.

I watched on CNN-Int'l. I suspect there was one audio-only feed going by land-line with the audio-video broadcast data going the longer satellite route, but that's just a guess. What is clear is that the same thing happened with the first reporter as well.

133. Not so disturbing -- or shouldn't be -- when you've got folks
who aren't technically proficient in that area and thus have ONLY the theory that many already hold that Bush wears an earpiece to get someone to feed him his remarks and answers.

Some here say this was a glitch that somehow fed his speech ahead of the video. I'd like to hear more about that from people who claim to know all about it. I've never heard of it (why two audio tracks?? and how did they/could they get mixed up?) And I've certainly never seen it before. Some say it wasn't happening with Chirac. I agree. So why with Bush only?

They jury's still out AFAIC. I don't think it's at ALL implausible to believe that Bush gets his answers -- and possibly his speeches -- fed to him. He probably also has a written speech in front of him at the same time. We ALL know he hates to read (probably dyslexic). So if someone isn't even aware that a glitch like this (if it was a glitch) was technically feasible, of COURSE that person is going to jump on the one theory that s/he is aware of.

Earpiece-Chimpy makes the same mistakes as Podium-Chimpy.

I believe it was some kind of strange, overseas technical delay, some kind of feedback. It seemed like the strangest thing while watching it live, but on second viewing, I don't think there was a seperate "earpiece guy" feeding Chimpy lines.

It was pretty funny there for a minute, though, especially when they cranked up the "Earpiece-Chimpy" volume!! :-)

Just because it may not be the case here, it DOESN'T mean our suspicions are unfounded!

Anyone remember reading that during his pResidential campaign, Karen Hughes actually used to stand down in front of the platforms and actually mouth the words when he would get stuck?

It's already been done, in 2000!

People wondered if he would simply collapse when she returned to Texas, as he had depended on her so completely for everything.

Here she is, at his side, when he was the Governor of Texas:
