So I got accosted today by a Freeper at Costco
Went to Costco to do some shopping with the daughter. We're walking through the TV section and they have CNN on just as all the Tenet stuff is breaking and we're standing there reading the crawl when this older guy comes up and asks me if we need help. I say "No thanks, we're just watching CNN." He continues to stand there so I comment "The president got a lawyer yesterday and now Tenet resigns and I just want to catch what they were saying about McCain..." (I never did find out what they were saying about McCain). So we go to the end of the aisle and there's more stuff on the crawl she and I are talking about so we stop again and the guy comes up to us again. I try to brush him off with a funny remark "We just come here to watch TV." Then he starts telling me about his dad who is a retired postman and he and his retired postman friends get together and sometimes the subject turns to politics and did I know that Kerry was at an anti-war rally with Jane Fonda? I explained to him that the photo he was talking about was doctored and it wasn't true. I told him he could look it up on Snopes. Then he goes "Well he was there with her." I go "He was there but not with her." He said "It's guilt by association." I said "If that's the case then we need to prosecute President Bush for knowing Ken Lay." Then he says "Well I will never vote for Kerry because he threw his medals over the wall." I explained "He threw his ribbons not his medals" and then when I tried to explain that he goes "That's treason!" So I just looked at him and said "Who outed Valerie Plame?" I then got the blank, cow staring at a passing train look and then he got a call on the radio. I concluded by telling him that I'll be voting for Kerry in November and he has my full support. Where do these people come from? Do they just believe everything they're told?

1. So that's being accosted?
I would consider that a normal everyday conversation. You did good, by the way.

15. Shrug
I guess I just have a harsher definition of "accosted" than what this guy described. No biggie. He certainly could've said something to his manager, especially for continuing to question him with regard to Kerry.

The employee just sounded kinda pathetic to me.

Costco actually treats it's employees pretty well. Not very many of them are unionized, but they do get treated pretty decently...

Now you know why a psychologist friend tells me that his biggest hurdle with his clients is teaching them effective cognitive abilities. Once he does that, he can then begin to deal with their root problems.

Many people do not know how to think correctly. The pure act of a+b=c thinking.

Costco tends to give 100% of its political donations to DEMOCRATS. It's one of the reasons I choose to shop there. :D

20. What? Costco gives most of their money to Democrats?
It's nice to hear of companies that are actually on our side! Thanks for pointing that out. Usually, we tend to hear about Coors, Walmart, FOX TV, or other corporations that are total fund-raising fronts for the Republican party. It's nice to hear about one of the good guys.

23. I think its as, if not more, important to make note of GOOD companies...
... as it is to lobby BAD ones.

I hear excellent things about Costco's employment situation... it's tough to get in, but apparently every Costco employee receives above and beyond what we would call a "living wage."

Now, I'm not saying that just because you give to the Democratic party, that makes you a good company, or globally responsible, or adherents to the Living Wage, or anything. But it's always encouraging to see big-ass companies give their money to someone other than Republicans!

Anyhow, most of your Communications-type industries are big Dem contributors. A few of the bigger names include Time-Warner, Discovery Communications, and Barbra Streisand (God love her!!). :D

21. Good response and welcome to DU!
The stuff this guy was saying was pretty mild, really. Kerry was a Vietnam War protester - after serving two tours and seeing things there first hand, he came home to protest the war. What's wrong with that?

That's what I've been asking freeper-types who nag me about Kerry. "What's wrong with that?" Then a long pause. They usually can't think of anything to say.

43. please say "Hi" to your Dad
for me.

He's right. But there has been a shift... pardon me for using such a phrase, but there has been a "paradigm shift" in West Texas in the last 20 or 30 years.

One's word is not what it used to be. Nobody cares about anything but money anymore. It's true that in that place and time (the old days), a man's word was, well, gold. But those days are long gone. Nowadays it's just money, money, money.

It's ugly, let me tell you.

But best wished to you and to your Dad.

I've noticed that, too ibadreamer - that FOX News doesn't even
cover the good things our soldiers/nation is doing in Iraq. That
astounds me. I've e-mailed them about it several times, but of
course, who knows if anyone reads it. But you'd think at least
they would be happy to do a segment every day of something
GOOD - if nothing else, for our military! They deserve so much
more credit than their getting...

Kerry was at the ralley with Jane Fonda. True there was a doctored pic, but there was also a real pic that happened to catch them in the same frame although rows apart. So they didn't know eachother, but technically speaking, the man was right. Ill informed, but right on this one irrelevant point.
