Anybody watching MTP? 8:14 CT Pelosi says we must have more troops
Edited on Sun May-30-04 08:22 AM by LittleApple81
in Iraq even if they must be American.
Russert really pushes Democrats, doesn't he?
He showed a bit of Gore's speech (where he asked for the resignations) and asked "What do you think of his tone?" WHY DOESN'T MR. POTATO HEAD (sorry, I am upset at him) TALK ABOUT THE CONTENT OF THE SPEECH?

1. Nancy Pelosi is very impressive
Tim Russert is doing his best to trip her up but he can't....She makes so much sense in her comments and is showing emotion and guts....She's saying the Repubs should think about a new leader for themselves among other things...

3. Now Viagra Dole: when asked to discuss all the mistaken
assumptions and decisions in the Iraq war, brings out WWII.
THESE TWO WARS ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE!!
WHY DO THEY INSIST IN EQUATING THE TWO. JERKS.

6. She said "I asked for Rusmfeld to resign myself." About Rice:
that goes all the way to the president and it will be decided in November. But we cannot wait until November to try to deal with Iraq situation. When PotatoFace wanted her to criticize "Gore's delivery style" she refused. She said everyone has his own style.

5. She said that? What an idiot.
They're walking down the Republican garden path for the draft. And when the Democrats object, the GOP will drag out the Democrats calling for more troops in Iraq and slam the Dems for "talking out of both sides of their mouths."

What we need is an EXIT strategy. Not "more troops."

7. She was saying we cannot leave a totally destabilized country. But
they should be left in a state where they can defend themselves and have real elections. PotatoHead asked "if they decide on an Ismamic theocracy would that be OK?" She said yes. that is their decision to make.

12. That's a nice fantasy
But it's not going to happen. You cannot FORCE people to be stable and democratic.

i like pelosi, but she's wrong here. if it were a real war, for a real reason, i'd think otherwise perhaps.

25. I agree. A foolish thing to say. The US has ZERO credibility
in the Middle East and throughout much of the world. We cannot possible restore order to the innocent country we destroyed. Just get out and take the filthy, greedy US corporations with.

9. Yes. Wish Pelosi would take the press to task for their total failure
in the runup to the war in Iraq.

Damn Russert for badgering her over and over about criticizing Shrub for Iraq this past week. What a contrast to the way he bootlicks Republicans. Bob Dole is coming up; let's see what kind of questioning he gets.

Pelosi is standing her ground, but I wish she would say that the media failed us in the run up to the war and they continue to fail us by standing by their man, Bush, and failing to take blame for cheerleading us to war and falling in line behind the Bushies by equating dissent with a lack of patriotism.

Russert is relentless in his questioning, but Pelosi is doing a terrific job for us. I am pleased that I just this week sent the DCCC another contribution to help them take back House. Pelosi is one courageous woman, and I salute her.

She stood up to Russert's repeated assaults and defended her positions well. She made the important point, more than once, that this war in Iraq, was a war of choice, thereby emphasizing Bush's failed presidential leadership.

_____________

Russert could not be more tender with Bob Dole--commiserating with him about those awful statements made by those unpatriotic Democrats. A mutual suck-up fest with Dole being sure to mention "Big Russ and Me" Russert's new book. This is journalism?

10. Now the talking heads discussion:
Two of them say Bush uses terrorism for his campaign purposes.
One repug said threats are real and should be taken seriously despite the fact the "Ashcroft got ahead of the administration" (whatever that means).

14. using terrorism for politics?
in a sane world, that would be impeachable, if it were found that the terror threats were politically motivated.

15. When Russert practically says Bush is stealing Kerry's approach
and that Democrats are moving more towards leaving Iraq, Klein (I cannot see where he is from because I have a weather advisory over the name tags) says that Kerry campaigns with this style and he will tackle things his own way later.

17. It is a mistake for the Democrats trying to push Kerry to the left.
Democrats don't feel pasionate about Kerry. And they really were impressed by Gore's speech.
Kerry does not need to have an alternate plan for Iraq. He needs to make people aware that something must be done.

Bush.
Talking heads agree that he was running as a WAR TIME PRESIDENT and he is bungling it.

21. Well, my conclusion. PotatoHead wants to shore-up Bush, diminish
Democrats.
All the other guest talking heads (except the one from the Weekly Standard, natch) agree Bush has bungled badly and the economy doing better is not going to help much when he himself said he is a WAR PRESIDENT and the war has been royally screwed up.
By the way, when the RW talk about the economy, why don't they mention the deficits?

24. that was great
she used it as an example that "attitudes are running high". This was in the segment when Gore's tone was being questioned.

Shrub is so desperate he is even turning the blame on Poppy. Who's unstable now?

26. This is the way out....
...and you will hear it from all the fronline Dems for the next six months:

To stay and finish Iraq requires more troops.
There are no more troops, and no real prospect of them.
Ergo, we don't stay and finish Iraq.

27. I Disagree!
That's about as irresponsible as what Bush did.
Acting without thinking of the ramifications of his actions.
If we just leave because it hasn't panned out the way we thought it would....then the U.S. will loose any credibility it has left - will have no influence in the Middle East except at the point of a gun for generations to come. Doing the right thing isn't going to be pretty but we made this mess and we have to clean it up. The best way to combat terrorisim is to help uplift these countries and their people.
