Here are my rough picks for a Kerry Cabinet and my reasons for choosing them. Please propose any changes.
VP-John Edwards; because I truly believe he will provide the crossover appeal and balanced ticket that will enable Kerry to be swept into the White House.
SECDEF-John McCain; being a former POW, his presence in the cabinet--along with his job of running the war--will enable him to speak candidly about his experiences in Vietnam to the Iraqi people and torture victims. He can truly state with a straight face, "I know exactly how you feel." Being a Senator and Naval Captain, he has both the military and government experience that a senior cabinet member requires.
Dep. SECDEF- Gen. Wesley Clark; first of all, he's a damn general and former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO! His leadership through the Kosovo campaign proves that he will provide excellent leadership in Iraq as well. Clark has more military experience than McCain, but less government experience (being a general, though, he's of course not a newbie to governmental bureaucracy), so I think he's better in a policy position.
Sec. of State- (Pres.) Al Gore -- maybe I'm just on a high from watching his speech, but he would be perfect as Secretary of State. Being a link to the Clinton years, he will be able to traverse the globe and signify the return to the gentle and popular diplomacy of those years. The World loved Clinton; they hate Bush; Gore's presence will hopefully provide something akin to "We're back!!" to the world.
Sec. of Labor -- Dick Gephardt -- he is such a major figure among the unions in middle-America that he will be welcome respite from that beacon of collective bargaining Elaine Chao.
Sec. of the Interior -- Bobby Kennedy, Jr.; his strong record of ceaselessly fighting for the environment speaks for itself.
Attorney General-- I have no clue, to be perfectly honest. J. E. Hoover himself would be better than Ashcroft.
What does everybody think?
