Randi Rhodes vs. Ed Schultz
While I love Randi and am very happy she is doing the great work, if I had a choice between Randy and Ed, I would have to go with Ed, for two main reasons.

1. Ed lets his callers finish making their points before talking, responds to the substance of their calls, does not lecture, and engages them in a positive manner.

2. Ed spends less time talking about himself and his life.

1. Let's put this to the test
1) Howard Stern cuts his callers off, ignores the substance of their calls, lectures them constantly and engages them in a derogatory manner

2) Howard Stern constantly talks about himself and his life.

3) Howard Stern is the most successful and widely listened talk radio host in the US.

2. Ed is kindof boring..
Its a toss up. They both have their strengths and faults.

If you like rabid....Go Randi

If you like mellow...Go Ed

3. Agreed
Prior to AA, I only listed to Randi about once a week. I could deal with her quirks at that pace. But now that I listen to her much more frequently your #1 and #2 criticisms are started to grate on my nerves. She's worse in regards to interrupting friendly callers than she is will Freeper callers! - That's not right!

5. Go in peace, my son - said she bowing to her Goddess Randi
I have no idea who this guy is (except he tried some dorty tricks to get into AAR at the expense of Randi who practically launched it and that he is a conservative). But if you love him, why are you bitching and moaning against Randi? Follow your beloved, be happy, bye!

6. I would pick Schultz too (easy choice)
I am not a regular listener of either, but of what I have heard Schultz's show is much more interesting and just plain easy to listen to, while Rhodes reminds me of a screeching cat.

9. Would someone tell me how to listen to
Shultzy? I tried the link at his web site a number of times and on Windows Media it never connected. Then I wrote to him and suggested that he might at least make it easier to listen on the web. Never hear back. Never connected. Never listened to Ed. Never say never. Never mind.

13. Go to the KPOJ web site and stream it from there.
It works just fine.

18. Click on the "Latest" page of this site
When Ed's program is on the air (it's off now), DU has a link to the Portland AAR station that carries ED on that page.

The station uses the LiquidStar player and it works well for me.

the listen link. I tried the 'listen live' link and just got more of the website.

8. I like them both, and KPOJ plays them back to back
I think I am more like Randi, but sometimes Ed is more my speed - and I like the thought of someone out there in the heartland, appealing to hunters, fishers, truck drivers, and union workers. I think he is drawing back some of the working class people that are frustrated with the Republicans. More power to BOTH of them.

10. Randi any day
can't stand the bumbling Ed. He can't make a point to save his life. He's good at bringing things up but I can never figure out what point (if any) he's trying to make. I swear sometimes he doesn't know.

I love Randi's personal stories. It helps me relate to her as a human being more. And btw, I think Ed talks about himself (and sports which are irrelevant) plenty. I know why he does it, same reason Randi does it, but it doesn't interest me.

Also, Ed is not nearly liberal enough for me. He avoids talking about the abortion issue on purpose. He's said so. Nope, not nearly liberal enough for me. I'm glad he's out there appealing to the moderates to vote for Kerry and dump Shrub but I just can't stand listening to him bumble along.

I doubt there are gonna be tons of people who like both. They are total opposites.

12. Depends on what mood I'm in.
If I'm really pissed off, I need my Randi.

Ed is growing on me, but I'm still inclined to believe
is a late-comer, that he caught a whiff of where the wind
was blowing and decided to go where the new market was.

Good on him, and his schtick is pretty good. But Randi
is the real deal, folks.

15. Shultz refuses to badmouth other liberal talk show hosts
Randi, on the other hand, badmouths Shulz, as well as others.

However, Shultz tries to justify owning gigantic, gas guzzling SUVs, using pretty lame reasoning, which I find irratiting.

So, to sum up, Randi and Shultz can both be irrating, but both are great liberal talk show hosts.

I listen to Rhodes mainly though. I think that they both have roles to play and distinctive audiences to appeal to.

Today, Randi has been superb. I like Schultz also.

There have been no blanks today on the Rhodes show.

19. Yeah, but Randi is a democrat.
Schults is a republican who suddenly made a miraculous conversion, and is still to the right on many issues.

I'm fine with him ostensibly being on our side (even though I don't buy it any more than I buy Alan Colmes as a liberal), but I will never be a fan.

Randi's been on the right side from the beginning, she's bright & funny - and yes, she has no patience with callers who obviously have no point.

22. I had never heard of Ed prior to his "switch"
So I have no sense of his credibility while he was on the right. However, my impression is that he is sincere and passionate about what he says today.

23. I think this discussion is ok... I even think this discussion, or ...
...one like it, is ok everyday (because there does seem to be some sort of thread with the underlying point it to discredit and/or criticize Rhodes everyday)... but there is usually a few who don't like the answers they get....

Schultz - Limbaugh clone, former Republican, still a bit conservative on some issues. Enjoyable to listen to, though. But so is some RW radio hosts.

Rhodes - more liberal (IMO) than Schultz and much more inline with my politics. Proven ratings winner against the symbol of RW radio - limbaugh.

Rhodes - hands down.

25. Schultz is Boring - But There Are Alternatives
I can listen to him on Sirius Left and tried but always dozed off.

Now, if you need an alternative to Randi every once in awhile in that time slot and have Sirius Satellite Radio (which you should so you don't feed XM and the EVIL CLEAR CHANNEL EMPIRE), let me suggest you listen to Michaelangelo Signorile on OutQ 149 (the GLBT stream -- and if you're looking for unhearalded talent for AAR in the future, listen to this guy!) or the Young Turks on Sirius Left in the last hour of Rhodes' show (I usually flip to them so I don't have to hear So What Else is Snooze).

26. Randi
I've listened to Ed a few times. My impression is that he's a republican who was in a saturated right wing market and saw an open field in the "left" side. Sounds too much like Rush for my taste.

29. Replay Radio...Listen To Both
No comment here on their styles...I listen to both and can handle both at certain times and in certain moods.

For those who want to hear both, I strongly suggest you get Replay radio...it's like a TIVO for your puter that will trap Internet audio, store it on your puter so you can listen when you want to and what you want to.

I'm able to record direct from AAR and any network that has a Realaudio or MP3 audio stream. Lately mine is scanning 24/7...checking out a lot and not hearing much of anything.

30. Isn't it pleasant to have a choice?
I like Sirius radio because BOTH are on. Liberal Radio is coming a long way.

Personally I'd listen to Randi.

But it's great to have a choice.
