If this was a Sci-Fi series I'd click over to a reality program - but damn - we have to live in a world where the media points out a Bush lie once - somewhere - and then the fact that it was a lie is forgotten - and the actual lie lives on forever.

8. "at least it appears that way"... WTF?

It really *doesn't* appear that way. This story is so debunked inside and outside the government that it's seldom even mentioned anymore because it's such an embarrassment to the people who were peddling it. (Even the SLATE article offered here is as much about the cultish durability of the story as about any argument for it's ultimate truth.)

Why *are* you peddling this old story? I cannot imagine you're having a hard time finding 'skeptical resources.' In order to find the two links provided you would have to wade through hundreds or thousands of skeptical links.

This story is a prime example of people seeing a newspaper headline or other datum they really really want to be true and that datum becomes like religious dogma to them. If the same paper retracts the story the very next day that only means the government "got to them." No subsequent evidence can counter that one headline to the true believers. And with the Internet the bogus information seems to have the same weight as anything else.

This story came from Czech intelligence right after 9/11 when people were running around like headless chickens. They reversed themselves shorty thereafter with a big, "never mind..." The FBI and CIA, even after being ordered to go over this angle ad nauseum and with clear signals that the WH wanted it to be found true, continue to agree that there was no meeting.

This still doesn't prove that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11, and it doesn't justify the war by a long shot. But it's not something that we should just dismiss out of hand.
