How many think the government is...
...out of control? I'm talking all the government, not just Bushy boy. It seems to me that state and local gov is really hitting the taxpayer hard with multitudes of "tax" increases, etc.

What do you think?

1. State and local taxes are increasing
Because Bush is starving social programs, and states are required to have balanced budgets. It's the perfect setup for him, he can cut taxes all day, and leave the mess for someone else to deal with, like he's SO famous for.

Covering up Medicare underestimates, trying to cover up torture and massacres in Iraq, using the IRS as a political arm of the Shrub/Crashcart re-election campaign....

Yeah, just a little out of control.

Oh yeah, i forgot about how his No Child Left Behind program is leaving children behind b/c the federal government is paying for it and heaping the expenses on local and state governments to cough up the expensive costs for that while also having to cough up the dough for the damn Homeland Defense alerts. Uh-oh. Orange alert, i guess that means we need more Vitamin C b/c it certainly hasn't shown an increase in terrorism within our borders.

12. Then there's this...
...my local whore(representative) told me that the "no child left behind act" was why we had to let illegals go to taxpayer funded schools for free. Free, meaning that we pay.

3. Well, when you vote for a professional politician for Governor,
and months later find yourself with a a muscleheaded ham actor as your governor, you know something is wrong.

5. I think that the poorly thought out tax decreases by the boy idiot...
...eliminated the federal grants that local governments survived on and forced them to raise their local taxes to maintain a minimal level of services for their community. So take that with you back to freeperland

6. Que pasa, Que? :-) Welcome to DU. Oklahoma is about to add 55 cents
tax to every pack of cigarettes. Yep, the states are scrambling to extract every penny they can, largely thanks to the Shrub policies.
It ain't a pretty picture.

11. Good grief. There has to be a point of diminishing returns with this...
they keep raising the tolls on the turnpikes here (OK) because even though they were all supposed to become free after x many years, the revenue doesn't seem to cover maintenance and patronage goes down some significant amount every time they raise it. I sent the Tpk authority a letter, "just charge a million dollars a mile, you'll only need 2 or 3 customers a day..."

10. Let them tax Tobacco
Edited on Sun May-23-04 07:13 PM by Massacure
The only thing it is good for is driving up medical costs.

If just one president would increase energy efficiency we wouldn't be at the whim of the Middle East, we wouldn't need large amounts cash for a useless military that sits around on their ass all day in Germany, Japan, and Korea, Middle East, etc.

The founding fathers of this great country said it would be in our best interest to stay neutral of foreign affairs, and just about every president after Roosevelt did a damn good job proving.
