Olberman puts to rest the WMD found in Iraq...
an IED (improvised expolsive device) was found to have two components of the nerve gas - Sarin.

The two components did not mix and so it was not as deadly.

David Kay says this was probably something left-over from the 1980's that are scattered around the country in "onesies and twosies". The much larger threat to US forces are the large caches of conventional weapons scattered around Iraq for the insurgents to use.

1. Even if it's a "onesy" Jury is still out if it was a sarin shell.
HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HEARD "WE FOUND EM!" BEFORE...

Rumsfeld says it wasn't necessarily sarin

Don't jump to any conclusions just yet. That warning comes from Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, after the U-S military in Iraq announced that a roadside bomb containing sarin nerve gas had exploded near a U-S military convoy.

Rumsfeld told a Washington, D-C audience that the "field test" showing the presence of sarin may not be accurate. He says more analysis needs to be done -- and that it may take some time to find out just what the chemical was.

At the State Department, deputy spokesman Adam Ereli said "the jury is still out" on whether chemical or other weapons of mass destruction remained in Iraq.

2. If the reports are false,
the news will be buried back on page 8. We've been through this before.

3. The media is handling this well
they are not making a big deal out of it, because we KNOW there are no stockpiles.

Unless, of course, you have been watching Fox, listening to Rush, or Freeping.

4. Fox News Is Leading With The Story. . .
Edited on Mon May-17-04 07:59 PM by taquinas101
Wow, what fortuitous news! You have to hand it to the Bush, he is just plain lucky to find the missing banned weapons. Did we say 500 tons? No, no, no, we were referring to 500 or so missing shells.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,120137,00.html

Quote:

"Two weeks ago, U.S. military units discovered mustard gas that was used as part of an IED. Tests conducted by the Iraqi Survey Group (search) — a U.S. organization searching for weapons of mass destruction — and others concluded the mustard gas was "stored improperly," which made the gas "ineffective."

They believe the mustard gas shell may have been one of 550 projectiles for which former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein failed to account when he made his weapons declaration shortly before Operation Iraqi Freedom began last year."

End quote.

You know, up until now I have blew off charges that the Bush administration would engage in the distortions of the degree suggested by some on DU, but to declare vindication based on an artillery shell?

5. The Funny Thing is
that we blew it up.Even if it was Sarin, and that is maybe a 50/50 chance, we destroyed it.

7. Olbermann is the best
I love his sence of irony. I don't think his ratings are too good though.

8. Those bu$h gunnuts were getting wet over that worldnet story...
from a couple weeks ago.

I saw it posted at two different bu$h gunnut sites and I'm sure all the other ones were getting excited over that same crap.

But in regards to the recent sarin story, if General Kermitt says it's true then it must be.

11. Well, even if it was sarin . . .
I doubt whoever planted it even knew what it was. It was probably just a random find.

14. Keith rocks.
He's not spewing the talking points the WH sends to all those whores every day.

He has balls of steel for what he's doing. I'm shocked MSRNC lets him get away with it.

He's the only show on cable news I'll watch anymore.

15. Same here. He's the only one i regularly watch.
I think he is the only liberal/progressive on cable tv that has a show. He usually hits the stories that are talked about on DU with similar commentary.
