Did anybody else notice this during 60 minutes?

An ad for a hummer with Arabic music, no talking. Just the shots of the hummer, the planet and the Arabic sounding music.

Anybody else here do media analysis?

Dig this, advertise a military style gas guzzler and use the music from... you guessed it-- a region where oil comes from and we happen to be at war. Pretty interesting stuff.

1. If I had to guess..

They are capatilizing on the fear of terrorism and the fear many Americans have of Arab culture (fear of the unknown, fear of oppression, belief that they all hate us). They could also be capitalizing on a fear that the war in Iraq may spiral out of control. The Hummer represents security and control in insecure, out of control times.

2. Pretty much have to agree

I was interested when I remembered that something like 80% of psych grads wind up working in advertising and marketing.

In fact I actually raised a single eybrow when I realized I was hearing Arabic music since to me the hummer conjures militarisic images all by itself.

As I recall it came right after a piece on 60 during which they examined how Muslim women are treated in France and by their own culture.
