Am I the only one NOT happy about the polls?
Edited on Sun May-16-04 07:52 PM by vi5
I'm not even an overly paranoid person or a tin foil hat type.

But this early in the game, Bush doing so poorly scares me. It leaves them more time to come up with some devious plan. More time to test the waters to see what would work best. More time to lull people into submission so that they will readily eat up whatever it is Rove and company decide to spoon feed them.

If things were steadily going in one direction and these numbers were coming out in August or September I would be less confident that Bushco would be able to devise a workable plan.

Especially if you couple that with an Iraq pull out (which I'm not sure would be a good or a bad thing, even irrespective of the political implications which should be secondary to the moral implications in either direction) which there is no doubt they would find some way to frame as a victory.

It's sad that I should be happy to see these numbers which finally seem to reflect the reality that I (and most on here) have been living in for the past 4 years, rather than some media created Truman show type situation.

The other thing I fear is that if it seems too much like Kerry has a big lead over Bush then Nader voters may be more likely to do the protest vote which could cost us in the end if the lead the media is trumpeting that Kerry has proves not to be as big as they are making it out to be.

God, I hope I'm wrong.

1. If Bush is up, people are upset
If Bush is down, people are upset.

Do yourself a favor and do your political work without referring constantly to polls. Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

2. But that's my point more or less...
People on here and otherwise are poll driven and it proves to be a self fulfilling prophecy.

I'm not upset, I'm just not ecstatic and I think I should be.

3. Polls are meaningless to evildoers who would thwart democracy
Look at Nixon. He was a shoo-in in '72 yet he still harbored all sorts of paranoia about the Democratic Party and engaged in all sorts of dirty tricks and break-ins, etc.

You think Bush will only pull out the dirty tricks if he's behind? Think again.

4. I remain cautiously paranoid.
I'm happy for people who are optimistic - there's been precious little reason to be for three and a half years - but I despair that, failing a catastrophe even greater than this, America will ever rid itself of its First Family of Criminal Conspiracy.

6. Bush and company won't
be able to do much from behind bars and that's where they will be when all the shouting is done.

5. Excellent points, and my worry, also. I wish Kerry was doing better in
these polls also. But, I've done enough posts here asking Kerry to come up and "go at" Bush, and no one get's what I'm saying that a Dem frontrunner should be leading Bush by more than Kerry is, but am told that Bush is "committing suicide on his own, so why help him."

I'm very worried that Bush is imploding so fast but Dems don't seem to be getting a message out which gives an alternative. So, Kerry's numbers are higher than Bush, but not overwhelming enough that it still won't be a close election no matter how far down Chimp's polls go, they aren't boosting Kerry to an "overwhelming policy difference win."

At least not yet.

8. there's this thing called "momentum"
He ran on that for years after 9/11. We all saw how the momentum worked for him.

Now the momentum is going in the other direction.

I understand your concern but whatever plan they cook up is going to help them out about as much as all the hand wringing we did here for a couple years after 9/11.

Which is to say zilch.

9. Good point about Nader
I don't think we can relax one bit during this campaign. Kerry's fighting both Bush and Nader. I hope he doesn't get on too many tickets of battleground states.

10. We can't relax at all and this goes way beyond dirty tricks
They are clearly insigting riots, committing treason, war crimes, stomping the constitution. There is reason to be concerned....These people are dangerous and they are having We the people pay for their treason.
