12. People don't get it....
there are MANY suspicious things about this "beheading".
One: notice the color of the wall behind the "terrorists". The same
puke yellow that has been observed in the prison photos.
Two: the furthest "terrorist" on the right has American "mannerisms".
Very peculiar behavior.
Three: the chair. While yes, it is a "common chair" here IN THE
STATES, I don't think that its very common in Iraq UNLESS it
was taken there by American troops...or their supplier Halliburton.

Another poster here at DU has posted a much more lengthy list about
all the peculiarities of the "beheading" and I think that we all
can agree that the timing of this video is highly suspect.

33. Plastic chairs in the desert
I live outside Phoenix, Arizona, where it routinely hits 110 in the summer.

I have six plastic chairs on my back patio, two on my front patio. Two of the plastic chairs on my back patio (the ugly pink ones) were purchased in 1989.

But of course, don't believe me, because my personal experience contradicts your theory.

And it wouldn't make any difference if I posted pix of my pink plastic chairs from 1989, because you'd just say I had doctored the photos or something.

sheesh

you'd know that plastic chairs hold up quite well in the desert.

So that begs the question -- why did you ask about it? (of course, now you've conveniently scrubbed your own question. hmmmmmm, why would you do that?)

54. I would never attack you, cosmicdot.
I was merely wondering why, if you lived/live in Scottsdale, you would ask about the viability of plastic chairs in the desert? I mean, it seems that one who had actually lived in a community that is located in a desert-like region would know if there were plastic chairs there and how well they held up.

And it seemed strange to me that, having received a response to your question, you would then delete it, as if you had, perhaps, changed your mind. But if in fact you had changed your mind about that question, especially AFTER it had been answered, why did you not change your mind about the other place in the same thread where you asked the same question???

I"m not trying to attack anyone, though I am trying to attack sloppy thinking and analysis, here and elsewhere.

There are SERIOUS anomalies in the Berg case. Why he was in Iraq, why the US govt is handing out different stories about him, and so on. I would love to see more analysis of these aspects, and less about whether or not cheap plastic resin chairs in the murder video and in Abu Ghraib prison are evidence that the CIA murdered Berg.

The worst of it is that when those of us who are taking the role of devil's advocate bring up something that might be considered a FACT, we are routinely ignored. The orange jumpsuit has been debunked several times, yet it still comes up as "evidence" that the CIA snatched Berg right off the street after he'd been released from prison; few acknowledge that there's plenty of evidence and logic to refute that claim.

Likewise the threads on the "gold" ring al-Zarqawi appears to be wearing in the video. Gold jewelry is forbidden to fundamentalist Muslim men, therefore the murderer in the video can't possibly be al-Zarqawi. This kind of bizarre non-logic makes my eyeballs hurt. No one seems to even begin to consider that when the FBI/CIA analyst said "gold," they could have just meant "gold-toned" and that in keeping with strict Islamic law, the murderer was wearing a "gold-toned" brass ring.

I'm also not saying tinfoil hatting is all bad. In a thread a couple of nights ago, a discussion of one of the photos from Abu Ghraib pointed out that one of the men in the photo was way too overweight to be military. Several people brought up experiences they'd had with very over-weight reservists, etc. But it does make one think. Why is this very over-weight person even in the military? Well, it appears now, from an analysis of a similar photo, that said person may in fact be a translator. Military? Contractor? Who knows for sure at this point. But it does raise the issue that at least some DUers were suspicious. Whether their logic was correct or not, remains to be seen.

I think a lot of people are either seeing what they want to see in the Berg murder, or they are just jumping to conclusions based on very flimsy evidence. it seems to be human nature to see what we want to see, and it takes some effort to remain skeptical. That doesn't mean skeptical just of the government and the BFEE, but even of ourselves.

Somewhere on the web there's a site that contains an interesting little test. I saw it at school a couple years ago and now I've lost contact with the prof who used it. The test consists of asking the class to watch a short video, maybe 60 or 90 seconds long, and count how many times the basketball is passed between the players. The video then launches and one sees a circle of six or seven people tossing a basketball back and forth, around the circle, etc. At the end, the video goes blank, and the instructor asks, "How many times did the gorilla take the ball?" And of course NO ONE SAW ANY GORILLA. There was no gorilla in the picture. How absurd! But when the short video is played again, sure enough! There's some guy in a big huge gorilla suit, running into the center of the circle, tossing the ball to the other players, running out of camera and back in again. Needless to say, those of us who had been "schnookered" by this test were a little more careful about our perceptions of reality from then on.

Our eyes do play tricks on us, and we often do see exactly what we want to see rather than what's there. We just have to learn to be skeptical of ourselves as well.

Are there other sources for that? I did hear about this for the first time.

Yes of course the identical chairs are not proof on their own, however when all the pieces of the puzzle are assembled together, we have a picture that is virtually undeniable - Nick Berg was murdered by agents working for the occupation authorities.

The people who killed Berg were probably Russian mercs, since we know they were speaking Russian for a few seconds before the sound was cut, and spoke Arabic with a Russian accent (according to other investigators).

The video quality was intentionally made very poor so as to hide the obvious signs that the people posing behind Berg were not Iraqi's, and to hide other evidence that may of been in view. This was poorly executed "job", probably done in haste, and likey done as a propaganda ploy to deflect from the torture scandal.

Someone ought to contact the Berg's and let them know about what was uncovered. The FBI will never do a proper investigation, nor will the lap dog media touch the story beyond the official line.

The killers may of been dumb as a bucket of bolts, but it does not take smarts to kill someone and then cut their head off. It does however take some smarts to make it convincing, and I for one am not convinced in the slightest."

23. I read that on a number of Russian web forums this week
They said one of them said 'davay pozhivee!' which means something like 'do it faster' . Several Russian-speakers agreed that they heard this also.

The assumption was that they were Chechens (keep in mind, these were Russians thinking this). Others disagreed, and thought they must be Russian-Israelis. Thereafter, the threads usually disintegrated in the typical Russian-web-forum manner.

48. Aren't the Chechen rebels connected with Al Qaeda?
If this was Al Qeada, it's possible some Chechens were involved.
I think Al Qaeda is being linked to the recent assassination of Chechnya's president.

And I think I remember reading that Atta had some connections to Chechnya. I'd have to google and see if I can find the articles.

That could explain Russian being spoken, and the pale skin everyone is on about.

This whole damn thing is confusing. I don't know what I think. SO many inconsistencies and weird coincidences. You couldn't make this shit up.

53. I wonder if some of you...
...understand how rare 'cheap plastic chairs' are in Iraq? They just don't buy this shit.

- I can see that we have the same 'skeptics' going around trying to intimidate other posters into not looking any further into the inconsistencies of this murder. Go ahead and believe in coincidences...the rest of us will not take the official line without blinking.

- The execution (of an obviously) dead body takes place in a room with the same color walls as the prison...with the exact same type of (white) chairs that are used in the (American occupied) prison. Golly...another coincidence? Could it be that he was executed in the prison?
