We need to just kill them all.
"That's what the bibles tells us to do."

Thus was the wisdom of my bartender last night.

"I'm selfish so what? that's just the way I am."

I finished my beer and left. He didn't get a tip. I'm bummed too because this place is my favorite watering hole.

1. I'm hearing a lot of that now
and also "all we did was make them get naked, they burned our guys alive, which is worse?" So, no "moral high ground" for us any more???

Let's see what the evolution of this was was:
WMD nope, so let's make it about "freeing the Iraqi people" from a ruthless dictator...
now we as occupiers mistreat them too, but hey, "we're not as bad as they are."

I think I'm going to be sick.

6. And they always mix apples and oranges.
If you say anything they will say, who cares , they are all alike.Sometimes the world can be a scary place to live in when people think like that.Well back to the war on a noun.poverty, drugs, terror, evil what ever.

10. These people are racists
Anyone who says "they are all alike" are racists, pure and simple. In essence, they are saying "they deserve to die because they are of middle-eastern descent."

17. Ignorance is our doom
I had this conversation with a DEMOCRAT (supposedly) about 15 years ago. His basic premise was - "well, all Arabs are crazy inbred towel-heads." No lie, this guy, who I had considered to be a friend then proceeded to dance around the room beating his hand on his head and making whooping noises and saying "this is why those people are crazy." And the shocker to me was, this guy is black. I thought - how could such a racist statement come from a black man?

On the other side, the haters in the ME are using the whole Abu Ghraib incident to justify hatred of the U.S. and the West. The people there, of course, on the whole are VERY poorly educated and much more easily manipulated than folks here (although sometimes that's a stretch).

The sad truth may be that the bodies have to pile up before people get beyond their visceral feelings and start thinking.

2. I was a bartender for years in a neighborhood
watering hole.

First rule of bartending: make the customers COMFORTABLE.

Aren't you in NC? I am looking for a job! btw, I am a great bartender! :)

5. Edwards Mill Bar and Grill.
It's a great little place. Don't know what it's like to work there though.

Anytime you work in customer service you are supposed to make the customer comfortable. I've done the hotel and retail thingy too. Same rules.

20. If you ever get to Raleigh
go to Sadlack's on Hillsborough St. right across from the NC State Bell Tower.
I call it the bar at the end of the universe, Sads, Loser Lacks, I haven't been in a while but I love the place it's where happening people go to not happen ;)
Here's a link to a web page that one of my friends made explaining Sadlack's?<--- it's a must experience.

33. actually i never stopped in there.
but of course i know exactly where it is and been past it many times. i was a bit more tied down at the time and not really into getting out to bars. looked like a cool place that was the antithesis of the frat boy bars, but at the time i was going out of town a lot to visit a girlfriend. looking back i wish i would have stayed in town more on the weekends.

and yes we supposedly have pretty bad air up here! it doesn't look so bad, but they say it is. the visibility seems to decrease each year.

8. Remember
From all indications, the contractors were all dead before their bodies were burnt.

Beheading is probably a quicker way to go than being slowly beaten to death.

For every American soldier and civilian killed in Iraq, at least 100 Iraqis have already been killed.

No excuses here, but certainly no "moral high ground," either.

War is fucking insane, the indelible stamp of humanity doing what no either species can do.

7. I've stopped giving my business to openly RW A-holes.
There is a local deli that I used to go to twice a week for lunch where the owner is always ranting about liberals. Finally he mouthed off once to often and I vowed to stop giving him my business. Any money he makes is money he could donate to the GOP so I cut him off.

9. This is what happens when there is a void in leadership.
People go off on these tangents because they are overwhelmed and they have no leadership to look to to see the way out of the morass. I have heard the "nuke 'em" comments too from people who would not hurt a fly and would give you the shirt off their back. It is very sad.

12. the last refuge of the weak.....kill them
because killing them is easier than a solution...it's easier than owning guilt...it's easier than having to think about it...

If you have to "kill them all" to escape the reality you find yourself in, then you admit the "them" you want dead is a force that challenges your comfy cozy world....

and some people do so hate any challenges to their world of denial...

13. Something I thought of once upon a time.
My friend thought it was an incredibly astute observation. I thought I was just running off at the mouth again. :) we were driving along, I got flipped off yet again because of my bumper stickers, and just kinda mumbled "if you are offended asshole ask yourself what you are afraid of." She made me repeat it three more times so she could make sure she had it right. Sometimes it's good to have a "TIVO brain".

21. this is a very good reply to that type of nonsense
Edited on Thu May-13-04 07:56 AM by SheepyMcSheepster
misanthrope posted this yesterday and I think it will really be effective and make people stop and think about what they are saying:

"I heard someone say...

...the Berg video convinced them we need to nuke Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran.

I asked if they had relatives living here (in The South) during the 1950s.

"Sure," they answered.

"Good thing, then, that no one in Washington felt the same as you when Emmett Till received the same treatment as Nick Berg. If so, Dixie would STILL be glowing."

I'm shocked...
...that more haven't picked up on this most sublime irony. News of the federal government's reopening of the Till case has been all over the news AT THE SAME TIME as the Nick Berg incident. And there are countless others like Till, some black, some white, all horribly murdered.

Should Ike have levelled Little Rock? Should Birmingham have been incinerated? What about Selma or Oxford? Should Mobile have been turned to ash when Michael Donald was lynched there in the Reagan Era? Should Jasper, Texas have sprouted a mushroom cloud just a few short years ago?" -misanthrope

Edited on Thu May-13-04 01:12 PM by Zinfandel
I despise when people quote the bible ONLY when it serves to make their point and ignore it when it comes to their own life. Very convenient for the assholes...just like the people who use the bible to say homosexuality is wrong and then have their own hedonistic, sexual depravities...so they can feel superior and want others to believe they are better than the gay person...then pointing the finger at them and using the bible ONLY when it suits them...to exploit and disapprove of others.

They should shut the fuck up and mind their own business.

I'm not gay nor am I a believer of organized religion, the bible, or any vehicle that seeks to control people, and spews out hate, exploits guilt and the alienation of others, to promote their own obvious gains and prejudices.
