Because its what they want us to do.
Anyone else agree?

I don't understand why anyone would want to, frankly. Unless they are a fan of grotesque images or perhaps a ghoulish curiosity.

I prefer to look at beautiful things.

4. The only reason I looked, was so that I could talk about it
intelligently...I agree with you though, that the timing and circumstances are certainly suspicious, given the firestorm surrounding our own torture and killing. If it's going to be "eye for an eye" the whole world is gonna be blinded by this.

12. I can't look at it and I can't talk about it.
It's all too gruesome for me to contemplate. Not that I have Bar's "beautiful mind," but I don't ever want to be desensitized to human-on-human violence through repetition of the images. I'm queasy in the extreme. Don't even like most movies.

So I can't participate in these conversations, but I'm listening. And  ing.

6. If we are going to look at what our troops did to the Iraqis
then we owe it to look at what they are doing to our troops. The video was awful but I felt necessary to put this in perspective.

37. Just make things clear...
That young man wasn't a soldier and neither were those men whose bodies were hung from a trestle, they were contractors. That being said, their deaths aren't any less disturbing than our troops and innocent Iraqi's.

it made me feel quite nauseous. I looked around to make certain the waste basket had a liner and was within easy reach. Just to be sure.

8. No way am I watching.
I was always horrified even by simple accident scenes with people getting hurt.

Just as sad as some poor shlub getting killed who was just trying to make a buck fixing stuff, is that the perps seem to think this is some kind of 'who can be the sickest fuck in the world' contest. What's even sadder is I'm sure some freeps want to be even sicker fucks.

Ain't lookin' there, either. Gonna go find some dinner in Tarrytown NY instead.

13. I saw the tape
And now regret it. I feel.....dirty somehow. But, I do not feel hatred at the perpetrators, which is what the release was supposed to release I suppose.

What I feel is pain, pain towards the family of that young man, and anger that the US administration would get this occupation so wrong, so ugly, so outside the principles of justice and law, that people would be enabled to do this.
And, feeling rather machieavellian, I cannot help wonder at the timing of this release, just days after the torture photos. Are we supposed to think of Iraqi's as animals, barbaric animals who saw off their perceived enemies heads off?

One man's unfortunate execution cannot wipe away the tens of thousands that the US have killed, and dead is dead. Where will this end? How will this end? Our focus is gone, so blinded by atrocities, torture, murder, rape. What are we trying to accomplish? I can no longer see the benefits of a Saddam free Iraq. And, perhaps that is saddest of all.

Have you noticed the rhetoric now on the war on terror? Now, the senators and the congressmen are fessing up to the fact that this is a generational war...it could go on for DECADES. How is it that we have fallen into the same trap that Israel suffers???? How is it that we have willingly degraded our moral compass to fight this....and more importantly, how will we ever get it back????

17. I almost watched it but stopped well before they killed him
I couldn't bear it. Which is ironic since I was watching "Faces of Death" bootleg videos when I was a 8.

I can't watch that man get his head cut off for real. Can you imagine what his parents are going through knowing the world is watching that happen to their son?

21. I saw it a few hours ago...
and I'm still troubled by it...but my troubles are slowly turning into anger...anger at this administration for getting us into this position...

And now with some of the threads here about this was possibly an "inside" job...I don't know what to think anymore...the timing of it all is definetly got me wondering...

bottom line for me is...enough is enough...BushCo should be impeached...Rummy should resign and all of them should be brought up on charges for war crimes...

This hasn't made me mad at the Iraqi's...it has made me mad at the administration for getting us into this mess...

I never thought one could be decapitated so easily. I feel sorry for the family and how they got caught up in this mess. If you can fight the urge not to watch it I would advise so, definetly not for the faint of heart.

but I don't know if I'll ever watch it. I didn't seek out the prison torture pics and don't really feel the need to see the video; my imagination is active enough, thank you very much. I'm already sick over this whole situation and nauseated from the descriptions of the pics and the video. I'm gonna log off soon, so I can collect myself well enough to function tomorrow.
