As you know the U.S. government has said at least 200 times "Disgusting, awful, etc." about the prison attacks, but after the news came out to opinions differ then now.

1. We will not be held to worldwide standards, so yes...
Edited on Sun May-09-04 11:32 AM by scubadude
This was implicit in the administrations insistence that US soldiers not be bound by the Geneva Convention and international law vis-a-vis the World Court.

Americans are to be held to a different standard.

3. Okay...
So what will be their difference in their punishment if they were taken to the world court?

4. The US has threatened to invade the Netherlands if that happens
Edited on Sun May-09-04 11:44 AM by htuttle
Congress passed a law last year that says that if any Americans are brought before trial in The Hague, the US Military should use deadly force to 'rescue' them.

That's right -- we've threatened to invade the Netherlands.

So it's sort of unlikely that any Americans will be brought before The Hague at this point, unless someone calls their bluff.

2. Rush Limbaugh defended and justified the torture
and he's a Rove mouthpiece and a member by proxy of the current administration.

5. You mean other than every time they open their mouths?
Where have you been - it's been one excuse after the other.

Take your pick:

We're not as bad as Saddam - now it's "Saddam did worse" or "Saddam did the same things".

It's only a few bad apples.

Keep Rumsfield.

We need to investigate further.

It's only "abuse" - not "torture" - or "mistakes", etc.

We're better than that.

It's politics to criticize - it's only democrats doing it.

To publicize the PHOTOS would make us look bad.

It's like a fraturnity prank.

The accusations are from a disgruntled enemy - they have yet to be proven (don't believe the pictures - their faked).

Al Jazeera reported it - you know you can't trust them like FOX.

I could go on.
