Lehrer Newshour: Shields Hands Brooks His Nutless Scrotum
Edited on Fri May-07-04 09:12 PM by stopbush
What a thing of beauty.

Brooks was out of control. The look of a trapped animal in his eyes. The rantings of the frat boy caught after performing a hazing he knew to be illegal. The slow dawning of realization of the gambler who has bet the farm on the wrong horse. And still, he tries to offer up lame excuses that would send Rummy scrambling for a note pad.

Shields made an incredibly astute observation: this isn't political. This isn't "Kerry is up 5 points, * is down three points. Whoever is president, that person will have to deal with this. This isn't a mark against bush. It's a mark against America, and it's not going to end tomorrow.

Catch it if you can on replay or via transcript.

1. Someone on Larry King made an astute point
(My husband told me so I don't know who it was) but the talk was how contrite and professional Rummy was. He apologized. The point made was "well, if the girl in all the photos was contrite and apologized would she get to keep her job and go back to being a prison guard in Iraq?" Hell no. Rummy shouldn't get to keep his either.

2. he's right. it will take FAR more than 4 years to fix what shrub has done
as hard as it will be just to get kerry elected, winning the presidency is just a small battle in a much larger war for getting america back on track.

it will take years to restore our international credibility and moral stature, and kerry will not be able to accomplish much with a republican congress, courts, and media.

even with a victory in november, we still have a long, LONG way to go.
