What's the REAL Issa story?
Edited on Sat Aug-09-03 10:18 AM by Capn Sunshine
I know many of you are following the CA recall story out of national interest. I have been working nonstop and I know Darrel Issa announced , very tearfully, that he was withdrawing from the gov. race .

My reaction is : Whaaaaa?

This man spent nearly TWO MILLION DOLLARS OF HIS OWN MONEY in an attempt to sieze for the republican party what they could not obtain legally. It seemed that this would guarantee him a place in the race

Now they have kicked him to the curb, after sucking all that money out of him?

What gives? I smell a rat but I can't get a grip on this. Is there a story I'm missing? He was obviously unhappy to the point of tears over this. Who/what gave him the order to get out of the race?

And WHY?

1. Rove told him to drop out
And by the word "told" I am using this as a catch-all for: blackmail, threaten, cajole, bodily harm, and so on.

2. It's possible Arnold upset their plans...
Unexpectedly, Arnold announced his candidacy on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. This must have surprised a few Repub operatives. Although they were advertising Arnold's run for Governor, did they really think he would do it? Perhaps they anticipated Bill Simon, Ubeurroth (sp?), or Dick Riordan as the true candidate and Arnold jumped in front of their line and upset their plans?

3. He had no chance of winning
even without Arnold in the race. He will be suitably rewarded with a multi-million dollar government contract. Bank on it.

4. Well, something is amiss
The RW machine out here is already attacking Ahhnolds credibility. National stories as well.

I wonder if Issa being Palestinian has anything to do with it?

5. Did Darrell spend his own money?
Or does that make for a nice story? The RNC has compensated the little criminal very nicely for the job he did on democracy. Please, if there are any conservatives posting who disagree with this assessment, prove that the RNC is not involved. You know, the old republican trick, prove a negative.

7. Rove the puppet master
Yes I have to believe that Rove did the calculus and figured one Repuke had to leave.

Issa will get his money back and a lebanese ambassadorship or get to to run against Feinstein.(mmmm mmm both very appealing haha)

But Issa may have figured out that he could not win...with so many repukes in the field.

If Simon Bows out today (He has yet to announce officially... The WH is definitely involved and Pushing a pro-choice candidate at the Right wing. The right wing is going to Howl fowl if the Rove plows the road for Arnold.

Not just in CA but nationally.

6. Might ISSA Turn Dirty Tricks on Ahhhnuld?
The Tweety machine has been smearing DAVIS as being a master of dirty leaking on opponents. Tweety roared with (self-)righteous indignation that DAVIS BETTER NOT fuel the Nazi stories. Those stories and many others have been out there for years. But it was sweet to see the sleeze ISSA blubbering.

8. Do we know that Issa really put up the money?
Yes, he has the money but, if someone were going to funnel the money, would anyone believe it if Gary Coleman suddenly came up with 2 million bucks? Then, again, he could have put up the money under a clandestine agreement for a political quid pro quo. Josh Marshall has suggested he was crying over the dead horse found in his bed.

11. What a sleeze!
The Times article doesn’t give Issa enough credit for being less dishonest about his business prowess than he was the last time he ran for statewide office. In 1998, while campaigning for the U.S. Senate, Issa ran commercials claiming he had built his car-alarm company "from scratch" back in his home state of Ohio. But after an investigation by the Times, Issa had to do some Bennett-style backpedaling. Issa’s company started out as Joey Adkins’ A.C. Custom Electronics. Adkins’ company had a contract producing car-security devices for Ford. In the early 1980s, Issa owned a smaller electronics company that did work for A.C. Though profitable, Adkins’ company was having some financial difficulties, and in 1982, Issa loaned Adkins $60,000. As the Times’ 1998 article explains, "A similar loan from Issa was repaid the previous year. But this time, Adkins asked for a few more weeks to repay the loan—and Issa says he agreed." Such magnanimity didn’t last even one week: "Within days, however, Issa went to a judge and—under an Ohio law that did not require the debtor to be present—won a judgment for the outstanding $60,000." Adkins didn’t find out until Issa phoned to inform him he was taking possession of the company. snipped from the article

What a sleeze!!!! Somebody should :spank: him good!

12. No brainer
Either it was Bush, the Head of the RNC, or some other very high ranking Republican party official. One of these men probably bullied and threatened Issa out of the race.

I would say that the White House or the RNC pushed him out. That's a no-brainer.

13. Is It Impossible That Ahhnuld Will Be Blubbering, Too?
I had no hope that ISSA would be blubbering in despair, since the jackals have been so on top. But there was that unexpected (to me) blubbering by that U.S. Rep. (THOMAS?), and then ISSA blubbering. Is it so impossible that Ahhnuld will be blubbering in defeat?
