Compas/National Post poll (Cdn): Libs 39%, Cons 27%, NDP 20%
Edited on Mon May-03-04 11:36 AM by Minstrel Boy
Polled over the weekend:

Liberals 39%
Conservatives 27%
NDP 20%
BQ 12%
other 3%

The .pdf here, with regional breakdown:

http://www.compas.ca/data/040503-FedVote-EP.pdf

Highlight: BC is a three-way tie with Libs 33%, NDP 32% and Cons 31%.

Liberal support was dented by the sponsorship scandal, but it hasn't collapsed. A 39% vote could easily mean a majority government. The Conservatives haven't been able to capitalize upon it.

Compared to the 2000 election, the Libs are down about 1%, the BQ up about 1%, the now united right vote down about 11%, and the NDP up about 11%.

NDP support is traditionally very productive. That is, because the distribution of its votes is more densely concentrated into regional pockets than dispersed across the country, it needn't exceed the Conservatives in popular support to elect more members.

1. I'm willing to put $20
On the fact that Canada will have another Liberal sit-on-the-fence government. Liberal support dropped after the scandal, and has now been climbing back up. (Stupid Alberta for making the Prairies appear more conservative)

The liberal party is perfect for Canada. A fatherly figure leader, who will make everything the same for the next billion years. No change, nothing new, no bend left or right. Just middle of the road, swaying with public opinion, sameness.

4. If it ain't busted, don't fix it
Canada's the only G7 country with a balanced budget (even a bit of a surplus)

6. *cough*
The budget isn't the only thing to look at when choosing a political party.
If it isn't broken but isn't operating up to full efficiency, wouldn't you want to optimize it's potential?

2. Here's another poll from EKOS Research Associates taken Saturday
According to this one:
41.2 per cent of decided voters would choose the Liberals.
Conservatives won the support of 28.5 per cent
The NDP had 16.1 per cent
The Bloc Quebecois had 12.3 per cent.

I'm content to let Martin have a chance and see if his late father (who was a very socially active man, and who Martin referred to in his acceptance speech) has influenced him to do the right things for Canada....I'm trusting he will....

3. There's a poll a day, practically.
But Ekos, for whatever reason, consistently pegs the NDP support the lowest of all polsters.

Environics recently had it 39/29/19, pretty close to Compas, and Ipsos 40/23/18, which would mean a big drop for the Conservatives.
