The war never ended, and April is the worst month, period. The causality count far outstrips August 2003, the previous champ, and exceeds by dozens the total number of dead during the total "combat" phase (http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Summary.aspx).

Unless Bush was right and we'll all be dead, histories of this time will be written. God only knows when the Iraq war will be memorialized as having ended. But it won't be this occasion:
