Michael Savage: Screaming for a police state.
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 10:07 AM by barbaraann
I caught ten or 15 minutes of Savage yesterday and it was the scariest stuff I have ever heard on RW radio. The sentence that sticks in my brain is "We need star chambers, not juries."

Paraphrasing a few other things I heard:

The old-style Communists became liberals who are now terrorists.

We need to do something about the liberals now.

Liberals are the enemy within (name of his book) and they are destroying our country.

We need the Patriot Act renewed and strengthened and it is just fear-mongering by the extreme right and extreme left to say that it will be used wrongly.
...
I heard a couple of right-wing callers actually disagree with him about the Patriot Act but he just keeps repeating and repeating Rove's messages and the poor listeners won't even know what changed their minds when they have listened a hundred times and been brought into the mindless fascist fold. (I learned from watching Dr. Phil that repeating something 100 times almost hard-wires it into the brain. Dr. Phil was a highly successful jury consultant earlier in his life.)

Listening to Savage, I was gripped by the fear that they want to bring about the police state BEFORE the election, and probably before the GOP convention. I think he would even say that liberals deserve the same treatment that the Iraqi prisoners got in the 60 Minutes II story, or perhaps even worse. It's just mind-bogging that Savage accuses LIBERALS of terrorism!

3. But what's wrong with that?
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 10:29 AM by gandalf
Many people underestimate the danger created by these liberals. Perhaps one should replicate Guantanamo on US homesoil for the really pertinent terrorist supporters (starting with Gore Vidal, Noam Chomsky, Krugman naturally, and some others).

4. Gandalf....you're closer than you think to the truth.
Currently, there are right at 25 Million people in jail in the United States. More than any country in the world. Corporations are building one new prison per month in the United States...they now own and manage the prisons...for profit.

These are PRISONS...not schools!

5. Um, I'm pretty damn sure that the number is 2 million
I think the number you're citing might be the number of people who have ever been in prison in their lifetime.

25 mil would mean that 1 in 10 people in the United States are in prison.

7. Perhaps one has to live in the US to understand that...
as I never lived there for longer than two weeks, I simply cannot understand so many things.
One of them being: why was Bush nearly elected, and why does he still get more than 10% of the votes?

9. Bush was elected pretty much using the same techniques as
Hitler. I believe that Karl Rove's grandfather helped build concentration camps and there are lots of other actual ties to the Nazis, including Bush family financing.

Propaganda, waving the flag, fear-mongering, tricks, deceit, threats, etc...

8. Oh' mercy. What have we done to him now?
:eyes:

The Repugs are in control of all 3 branches of government, the media and the corporations. He's got a radio show, I'm a liberal and I don't. Exactly how can we poosibly destroy this country now? We have none in power.

Too much of his "herbal remedies" earlier in life. Next, he'll say he's Napoleon.

11. here's a quotation from "Savage Nation"
"You may think I've gone over the edge with this next statement.... Americans must give up some civil liberties in order to catch those who would kill us and then we get our civil liberties back."
--Michael Savage, _Savage Nation_

The funny thing is he repeatedly warns/whines in the book that Americans' freedoms are being taken away by the liberal "commu-nazis" and the Nazi-ACLU and etc. Then he recommends we relinquish some of our rights to the gov't.

12. It must be sad for him
to be such a pathetic cowardly fearful human being. He needs to grab some balls from somewhere and stop being such a wus - or better yet - maybe he should move to some other country where he'd feel safer?

14. It seems like the only way his plan would work would be to
kill every liberal and then "restore" civil liberties--otherwise nothing would change. Rightwing solutions always require "cleansing."

15. "THEN" we get our Civil Liberties back?
S'Yeah, right....Once gone, the only way we'll regain them is at gunpoint, just like 228 years ago....

Fucker's been smoking crack or sniffing Rove's farts.

Hi, Agent Mike!

13. What I don't get... is how anyone listens to him
incoherent ranting, nasty to the bone, crude and crass, and is completely illogical. How does he have enough of an audience to stay on the air? I really don't get it. I can understand Rush and Sean - and even Bill... but Savage?

16. Here in the Seattle area we now have THREE RW talk stations
and ONE partially liberal one. A couple of years ago is was just KVI and KIRO, one LW and one RW. Oh, and Savage is on during evening drive-time.

The rightwingers have figured out the psyops formula to appeal to some inner animal in a lot of people and if those people just listen once they get "hooked."
