Message on Today Show: Defeat!
General Odom to doubting Katie "You're not getting it. Let me put it more bluntly, we have already lost!" The general looked pissed.

He said, "If you MURDER someone, you can't go back and try to revive him."

9. Retired army general talked about the impossibilty of Iraq becoming
the administration's version on a democracy. Turkey is the only country in the ME that has anything like a democratic government and that took 50 years. Any government put in place by the US will fail because of the distrust of the US. The longer we are there the more anger will be created.

2. Jeez! I missed it! Katie is soooooo annoying.
The lip job, the hairdo, the "take me seriously but ain't I cute?" image makes me long for the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard.

Wish I'd seen that exchange, though!

5. When Murphy Brown opened the door during her baby shower..,
she yelled, "It must be that annoying Katie Couric!"

That line just stayed with me.

6. General Odom is a retired general who opposed the invasion.
He was opposed because he didn't believe that "goals" were achievable, and states that he has been proven right.

The "what" would be creating a democracy in Iraq.

7. yup
the general spelled it out....we're done

he also said If kerry were elected, it would get worse...because he has already comitted publicly to stay the course.

but he clearly stated the war is already lost....and the best thing we could possibly do is pull out and Pull out NOW, like as in pull out yesterday.
anything else is going to make things worse.

blank stare from joker face couric....

8. Odom's last stand.
Saying things like that will get him kicked off the spin circuit.

10. On FOX & Fiends they were trying to spin this as a "great victory"
"Boy, those gunships, I guess, sure did the job," said the blonde with the short skirt, beavering for the camera. The Marine general, retired, agreed.

11. No, Bush's plan is possible
if we're prepared to commit a tens of thousands of troops for the next 50 to 100 years.

Think of India as a model.

That's what's truly insane. I think the Bushies expect to be there for 25, 50, 100 years until "terror" has been eliminated from the earth, either by the U.S. Armed Force or second coming.

13. IIRC, Brits never had more than 20,000 troops in India.
They controlled it by having superior gun power and using politics brilliantly (or, more accurately, cynically and evily) -- they pitted different ethnic groups against each otherl; they used Indians to police and kill other Indians.

The US is trying to replicate that same sort of thing in Iraq. The things that are different is that Iraq is the new Kashmir and people from alll over the world are willing to go there to fight the US, there's an international trade in weapons that gets them armed, the Iraqis know the lessons from India and are killing Iraqis who sign up for the police force, and the different ethnic groups seem to be putting aside their differences to fight the US.
