How will you support the troops? Air conditioner off or on?
Off --> to reduce our consumption and dependence on foreign oil & gas

On -- to not let the terra-ists cow us and our "god given" way of life?

5. It was 91 here on Monday, although we had a nice breeze.
We slathered on some sunscreen and played in the baby pool all day. My neighbor has had her damn AC on nonstop since then, and it keeps me awake. She also has a problem with my laundry hanging on the line, but she can go screw herself. I'm saving money AND energy.

We are the ONLY house I've seen in the entire neighborhood with the windows open, which means everyone is running their AC. I'm not turning it on until I'm absolutely miserable.

Hey morans, its not the heat--its the humidity!

My dad was a miser growing up. He'd turn on the AC in mid June and not a day earlier. And even then it was programmed to like 80 degrees.

I'm on my own, I work for a living and while I will never drive an SUV, I will be comfortable. AC is one of the few luxuries I can give myself. Besides, if I left the AC off I'd be taking four showers a day. That's a waste of resources as well.

Shit in one hand, wish in the other.

CUrs are comparable to 'log cabin republicans'.

32. It occurs to me that people only lived to 35
for many thousand years.

They also lived in "siesta" cultures where you worked from 7-10 in the morning, took a long nap in the hottest part of the day and then when back to work when it cooled off. Now we're expected to be in an office when it's 105 degrees out, actually accomplishing things.

Working and living in constant heat is exhausting and dehydrating. It effects worker productivity and leads to sharp spikes in consumption of fresh water, which is also a dwindling resource. Next thing you know we'll be invading Canada for the water. :-)

16. Everytime I turned on the heat this winter
I thought of Michael in Iraq. for nothing but Oil revenues.
I kept it down to very little, and keep off all the lights all day and night except for what we need.
I refuse to be a lazy US citizen, and especially knowing full well how many died for all the chickenhawks out there who want our kids to die for their wastefulness.
Using less energy and petrochemicals where you can is patriotic.
Using more or not caring about it is being a traitor to the troops and to the country.

18. It is possible for all of us to reduce our energy use,
but it is very difficult to end it altogether. Here in Pennsylvania, I live in a cool duplex, and in the winter I turn down the heat and put on a warm sweater. If I'm just sitting in front of the computer and start to get chilled from inactivity, I throw a blank over my legs. In the summer, I am able to get by with just a window air conditioner in the bedroom and a couple of good fans.

I've lived in East Texas and the Washington, D.C. area, and I can't imagine living totally without air conditioning throughout the summer in either of those places. I don't know how people did it in the old days. Nonetheless, I found that using a fan with the ac on low kept me cool and used less electricity.

Those of you who own your own homes can plant trees and shrubs that will help keep your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. You can also improve the insulation and weatherstripping of your house and replace old, inefficient heating and cooling unites, and old appliances as your finances permit. Those of you who can make a larger capital investment and live in the right areas can look into geothermal heat pumps for heating and cooling.

And all of us can turn off unused lights and replace incandescent bulbs with energy-sipping compact fluorescents.

28. I think everyone can conserve in their own way
For instance, I'd rather bundle up in the winter time and save natural gas and electrcity than swelter during the summer. I also recently moved to within 5 minutes of my workplace, eliminating a 45 minute, 35-mile commute on a daily basis. That has saved me a helluva lot of money.

I also buy only fuel efficient cars. I'm looking into getting a hybrid the next time I buy a car. I currently have a Honda Accord which gets a respectable 33 mpg HWY and about 28 in town. Not as good as a hybrid, but a lot better than an SUV or mini-van.

Many building don't even have A/C. Mine doesn't. We usually only have about 10 days above 90 degrees a year, so it's no biggie. We've big on fans here for those days.

31. It doesn't have to be "ON or OFF"
I wish everyone would stop trying to make each issue the choice between opposites. That's the world of Dubya.

Instead, people could be encouraged to set their thermostats 2 degrees higher than they normally do.

You like it at 74? Try it at 76 for a couple of weeks. Still feel okay? Try 78. When it's 95 outside, 80 feels great!

Make it an act of conservation, not deprivation. Small sacrifices can inspire far more people and save more energy in the long run.

This is such a ludicrous and unjust war, but our young men have been called to duty. My cousin's son is a marine and while he has not yet been called to Iraq, a friend from his unit was recently killed in Iraq. His mom e-mailed us all and asked us to pray for him. We can disagree and hate this war, but we must honor thr prayer and honor the young men who are doing their duty!!! Unlike the unjust PREZ!
No air conditioning so we can get a flavor of what they will be going through.

Same with trying to save on gas. If there's really a problem with having enough gas, then ration it for EVERYBODY! I don't have an SUV, but I do have a big car. It's a 1999 and it's paid for! I drive about 7,500 miles a year, and I don't think Im contributing a whole lot to the gas problem.
