Another view on why we should not have a draft
After listening to Sen. Max Cleland on Air America, another reason to oppose the draft suddenly dawned on me: It’s because we don’t want our children and loved ones trashed by the GOP.

Consider this: Bush et al want a draft to beef up the military forces in Iraq. In reality, they want more troops to pull Bush’s ass out of the fire. But, why should ANYONE support the draft if draftees stand a chance of being ridiculed by the REPUBLICANS when they return?

Let’s look at the evidence:
1. Former Sen. Max Cleland: Vietnam vet and war hero. Lost limbs in the line of duty;
2. Sen. John McCain: Vietnam vet and POW.
3. Sen. John Kerry: Vietnam vet and recipient of 5 medals for his service.

The GOP slimed these good men by questioning their patriotism. They smeared these veterans for political reasons.

So why let BushCo send our children and love ones to Iraq if they plan to spit on them when they return? :grr:

4. Yes, that's a good reason, too...
There are many good reasons...

But the next time someone asks you why you don't support the draft, reply with "Because I don't want my/our/this nation's children to be spat on by the REPUBLICANS!" And if he/she begins with the "Hold it!...(followed by a "Rush-like rebuttal"), just cite how the GOP treated real patriots and veterans like Kerry/McCain/Cleland, then say "And I don't want my/our/the nation's children TREATED THAT WAY!!!"

I believe they would be hard-pressed to find fault with your sentiments, and may sew the seeds of doubt about the draft in them.

2. They also smeared Wes Clark regularly...
Wonder why it is that the Chickenhawks always smear the guys they secretly WANT to be!? :eyes:

But...we don't need a draft unless we have a WWII-type war. That's the ONLY cricumstance that would justify one IMO. NOT a war for P.N.A.C. and oil!

B-)

3. Pretty sick.
It's sad when the entire Bush smear campaign is based off of "No matter what service you've done for your country, if you are against Bush, you are a traitor".

6. Absolutely
Fucking beautiful comment.

Since bush and co have never been in combat they don't understand what it's like to live with the aftermath of war. It's easy for them to send others to die.

Anyone who's ever served during a period of conflict should be offended by this rhetoric.
