Just a feeling. Could be wrong. Have been many times before.

But this is....different.

Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 01:39 AM by TruthIsAll
There is a difference. I have a feeling that things are going to get very sticky for Bush over the next few weeks.

The public has learned much since January. He is at 43% approval, if you believe the latest PEW poll. That is very bad.

The next drop down may be imminent as more comes out at the 9/11 hearings, Iraq gets worse and his press conference turns out to be a disaster. With Wilson's and Woodwards' book waiting in the wings. These events will take him so far below the water level that resuscitation will be impossible.

The death knell may very well be the Plame investigation. If it goes to him, he's done.

15. The press conference will be a disaster... That will be the media's spin
The media is on a make Bush look untrustworthy mood at the moment. It's a story that they can go on and on about for weeks and weeks and make up total bullshit that could be true and could not be true. Sometimes I can't stand the way the media acts but right now I have four words to describe how I feel, "God bless the media."

18. Sorry to disagree
but the "press conference" is just a campaign stunt to boost his sagging numbers

there will be no "real" questions nor any "real" answers

the whole thing is scripted, just like his other press conferences. Questions will be screened, vetted, pre-approved and the answers will be whispered into bush*'s ear

No reporter/journalist will be allowed to ask questions that may put bush* on the spot

I'm a bit surprised that this press conference isn't being followed by a $2000 a plate fund raiser... or that bush* is appearing alone without Cheney there to hold his hand

meanwhile -- you can get your bush* finger puppets here and hold your own press conference... http://radicalfringe.freeservers.com/about.html

20. I agree
of course! This twit cannot answer any unscripted questions because he is not aware of any facts. In Suskind's book, he reports that cabinet meetings were scripted.

But there is always this fantasy and hope that someone one break out of the mold, and sacrifice their seats (like Helen Thomas) and ask a question that will humilitate and reduce this idiot to a babbling idiot.

Will this be taped first I wonder.

12. there are some telling clues
that the gang is toasted and there is no possible resuscitation

and even if at the first glimpse it looks somehow off the mark, in reality the connection to the whole mess is certain , was not the war in iraq about idiology plus a bonus oil ?
the clue is the unusual request from Sharon asking $ to give him a title to Gaza by signing a letter, this surrealist request is the unmistaken sign of total collapse of this admi

failed to tell US.

He tried to get away. Tried everything to divert our attention. But the big boo boo was when he let Condi testify. Now America knows about the DPB thing.

And now we know he hardly reads them, don't take it seriously, or no one told him HOW important it was?

What kind of a system we got anyhows?

The poor Condi, she be the first to take the sword, then Rummy the Dummy, followed by Ashcraft.

Can we dream of a Grn Jacket? Phil got his on Easter.

19. It may happen tonight, it may take a little longer, but it will happen!
bu$h has been having difficulty all along in maintaining his human shape. Given the stress that the Worthless Little Fuck has been under lately, the moment is rapidly approaching when his Reptilian Form becomes apparent. And it's going to happen on TV.

One moment, he will appear to be human (or as close as he gets). The next moment, you will see a 5' 10" Lizard on your thoughtscreen, complete with scaly skin, vertical pupils and a long, flicking forked tongue. Before he can stop himself he'll probably say something like,

"I am the Lizard King. I can do anything!" At this point, all the networks will go to a commercial break.

Make sure your TIVO is running.

26. I'd love to think so.
What leads me to believe this is due to all his hard living in his previous life coupled with the fact that he's in a job that's way over his head. Hell, city dog catcher would be an intellectual challenge for this fool. The economy is in the toilet. Eye rack is a mess, not the glorious victory his handlers were wanting. Sometimes I wonder if all his time off is spent in psychiatric teatment where he's doped up enough to handle the next go-round of the job. He's gonna self-destruct sometime. Just keep the football away from him please.

29. AS ANOTHER SAYING GOES ....
"Never underestimate the stupidity of the Republican Party." I think you are right. Bush has reached critical mass. We, the public, are literally saturated with his lies and deceit. It is one of those moments where the child in the crowd shouts "Hey! The Emporer is not wearing clothes!" Finally, some validation of the angst I have had about this administration.

34. Not implosion... but on the edge of further erosion (of support)
Watch for tonight's press conference to be as bad as his forced appearence with Russert a couple of weeks after the State of the Union Address; which was as bad as the State of the Union Addres itself.

From January on (after Kay resigned) he has faltered, and each time he and his team try to reverse it - the erosion is sped up.

First they timed the State of the Union Address to be right after the Iowa caucus. This was intended to blunt the positive press of the caucuses and cut off any momentum of whoever won. It worked for about two hours. The speech was so bland, so bad, and so pannable (due to the shift in language to... "weapons of mass destruction programs related activities"... which sounded to the public like "it depends on what the definition of Is, is."), that the talking heads were back to the Iowa into New Hampshire story by the end of the evening.

More bad Kay press, and the beginning of the Blix press (echoing Kay) watched Bush stumble further. Prior to this point, after 9-11 whenever the bushteam stumbled they were able to reverse the media tone within a few days to a week. But he kept slipping.

After about two weeks they plan the Sunday morning Meet the Press (to get him "out in front of the public and rebuild his "strong on defense" image for the campaign.) And he was awful. And his numbers continued to slightly erode.

Concurrently Kerry takes off in the primaries - and all of the news is covering the democratic primaries... free good press for democrats with criticisms of Bush in that coverage (which the press was still, though a little less, shying away from.) Bush continues to stumble.

He has never recovered from the hit after O'Niell's book was released, and has just taken more hits from Clarke and now the commission. His performance on Easter Sunday did NOT change the perception that he has treated the more serious threat lightly, and the escalating bad news from Iraq happening concurrently (in the backdrop of the "lies about prewar intelligence" story NEVER going fully away anymore)... leave his only strength in the campaign floundering.

So his only choice is the press conference (only his third evening press conference of his entire administration.) While I see no impending implosion, I see another attempt to change the image and media coverage by teambush - that will fail. It will fail because the front man the powers that be chose, is inept. Worse, because he is so intellectually lazy he doesn't even have the mental screens to HEAR when he says something so superficial and shallow that another politician would quickly add additional thoughts/spin on the spur of the moment. He is incapable of on the spot damage control. And while in other times his "plain spoken" image resonates with some Americans... in these times with complex issues spinning out of control negatively... suddenly to most viewers/voters (except his die-hard base) he comes off as simplistic and incapable of comprehending what is happening. Imagine - even if he were somewhat of a lightweight - wouldn't most people, after a tragedy like 9-11, suddenly change their MO and work their ass off to rise to the occaision - out of urgency? The image that is emerging, and his public appearances reconfirm, is a lazy, over confident man who is obstinant once he makes up a quick decision and thus won't even consider firing those who give him bad advice - and thus will allow bad situations to compound (even todays stories in mainline media sources about Iraq, Chalabi -- appears to be behind the current moves that led to the uprising in Fallujah).

In short - I predict further erosion of his already shrinking supporters. Those who wanted to believe he grew in to the challenge after 9-11... now are starting to see - from his own shallow and at times nonsensical - press appearances... that he never grew. He remained lazy, vacationing, uncurious and that the results have been disasterous. Thing is - it isn't Kerry or any democrat criticizing him that leaves this impression - it is BUsh himself.

36. Two themes have emerged...
1. There was no silver bullet...
2. Bush would have moved heaven and earth to prevent the attack...

I expect those two themes will feature prominently this evening.

In addition, we will hear that the insurgents are a small minority... a mere handfull of individuals... who either haven't caught on to the idea that Iraq WILL become a democracy, like it or not, or that the Iraqi people are still afraid to support the US troops for some reason, although they really do like us deep down in their hearts.
