He said the example of Jesus of Nazareth was the gold standard. For his life to mean anything, then the way he lived was to be the example. The way our leaders are handling things (since they are supposed to be appointed by God according to the fundies), they seem to be missing the mark.

I argued this with some freepers on another board a while back, and their take on it was that, believe it or not, Christianity was not a peaceful religion and that Jesus was violent (they cited him throwing the moneychangers out of the Temple). Their whole take was that they could do anything they wanted to because they were "saved", and that living a Christian life was an option they didn't have to take, a rather amazing interpretation of Christian doctrine, imho.

I'm hoping they were joking, but I fear they won't.

Glad your priest said what he said. Gives me hope that there are still some Christians out there who practice their faith.
