It looks the the dems are in the same position here as the GOP is in Illinois. Nobody has emerged with even an exploratory commitee on our side and the GOP has a bench of candidates already fundraising.
The conservatives dream candidate is already in the primary, a black conservative with a very impressive resume, Herman Cain is running. If democrats and dem-leaning independants do anything they should work to have him lose the primary. I know it's not taking the high-road, but I wouldn't be for it if he was a moderate republican.
dems seem to have noone.
I really think it's important to nominate for president someone who congressional candidates running in the south and in rural areas can ride the coattails of atleast more than they avoid those coattails.
Whoever faces Burr in NC, DeMint in SC, one of the many dems in GA, and Foley or someone else in FL - is going to be in much better shape if Edwards or to a lesser extent Graham is running with them.
I would argue that while if Graham decides to run for reelection in the senate he is a lock, the NC senate seat will more likely be preserved with Blue or Bowles running for it, and Edwards carrying the state or coming very close as presidential candidate, than if Kerry or Dean were the nominee, and Edwards ran for reelection
