AP: Bush Picks Chief of Selective Service
Would post in LBN, but it's from yesterday.

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) - President Bush has picked a former lobbyist and ex-Marine as director of the Selective Service.
Bush said Tuesday he intends to nominate William A. Chatfield to the post.

The Selective Service would provide manpower to the military if an emergency forced a draft. It collects young men's names through the Selective Service registration system.

2. Anyone got his military record?
There are no details in the press release about the dates that he was on active duty, or location, length of service, type of assignments, whether he ever was in battle. I cynically suspect that a person who spent decades in Washingtonas a Republican lobbyist, sucking up to the GOP and handing out cash/bribes for votes probably played the political game in the Corps too - either a quick tour of duty in peacetime or some ultra safe duty as aide to some high ranking officer. If he had ever been decorated with a battlefield medal, you KNOW it would have been hyped in the press release. Same for his reserve duty - what's he done? I think the person who will be sending thousands of our young men and women into hells like Iraq, should have gone through a war himself.
