surely he just misspoke

quoting Rumsfeld as saying "it's a moment on the path to a free Iraq."

"it's not a popular uprising"--General Myers

Rumsfeld said some really insanely mendacious stuff at that press conference, didn't he?

I think I read some here on another link

How has Dobbs been treating this so far.

Dobbs says there are reports that some coalition troops are abandoning their positions, as well as staying on base, not venturing out.

not so, says Jamie McIntyre, CNN Pentagon shill

1. moving to politicians' reactions here in US: US Senate
McCain says comparisons to Vietnam are incorrect

Kennedy, then Byrd, who quotes COLB, then says he hears echoes of Vietnam

then CHICKENHAWK creep Saxby Chambliss says that Dems who disagree are hurting our cause

Daschle says pugs better watch it, even when reporter says "even in time of war?"

Dascle says "ESPECIALLY in time of war!!!!"

he must've had a whole bunch of milk today!

3. Suzanne Malveaux from the Chicken Ranch
Scotty McClellan downplays significance, showing him saying that a VERY SMALL number of extremists are doing this

no mention of AlQaida, though

wonder why

CHICKEN RANCH!

2. I saw a report that said the Ukranians were told to pull back.
I take exception to the assertion that they are abandoning their positions. The U.S. military does not report civilian deaths and it hasn't from the beginning.

4. you know what the first casualty of war is, yes?
who knows what the hell is going on there.

Randi Rhodes was quoting people she knows who've been there before, and a listener from Britain, who says US news consumers have no idea what's going on if they just watch/read/listen to conventional news outlets

and, as for what's happening now, at the moment, there's really no way to figure out the truth

what we DO know is how CRIMINALLY unnecessary all this was to begin with

My heart aches as my stomach turns

12. I listen to Randi and get news from elsewhere so I do know what's
going on. However, perhaps it's a matter of semantics; to me "abandoned" means you ran away and faded into the populace. Obviously difficult to do if you are a Ukranian.

5. Ken Pollack is on now, excoriating the junta
for ignoring ALL KINDS of warnings about what could happen if they didn't plan more carefully before they went in

well, they're certainly reaping the whirlwind now

7. Dobbs giving it to DOD
for calling insurgents "thugs and gangs," for trying to use language to stack the deck against those that want us TF out of there.

8. Pollack says we should have gone in and done the "pacification" bit
a year ago

guess he meant we should have wiped out a whole bunch more insurgents back then, before they declared themselves?

how would they have done that?

then, Dobbs asks Pollack WTF were the CIA, DIA, etc, DOING for the last year?

he basically says that they didn't know what they were getting into, the situation there is "SO complicated"

ahem

9. Dobbs asks about the junta's USE of LANGUAGE!
specifically avoidance of the word "occupation", and other highly charged words to put the best face on things

no, they'd never do anything like that, would they?
