1. why bother?

he had an excuse a week for a good run there. saddam bad. saddam brutal. saddam would be a threat if he acquired wmd. saddam wants wmd. saddam anti-democracy. saddam gassed kurds. mention 9/11 in same sentence. saddam 9/11. 9/11 saddam.

maybe some of us were naive and buy all the excuses, but on some level, everybody knew as soon as bush declared his candidacy that if he became president, he was going to finish poppy's war.

in fact, i'm willing to bet that's where a LOT of his votes came from, from people who were angry at poppy for not "finishing" saddam off the first time, and figuring that junior was the one person they could count on to finish what poppy started.


so all this wmd crap, good intell, bad intell, whatever, is all just a sideshow because it was NEVER anything more than a cover story for an invasion that was always going to happen.
