Phil Donahue should have a show on Air America Radio.
I think he'd be a great radio host. Since he got screwed over by MSNBC and given his background, I think this would be the perfect forum for him.

I emailed Air American Radio and made this suggestion.

5. No to Donahue.
I feel sorry for the way MSGOP tossed him aside, even tho his numbers are better than Chris the Screamer in the same time slot. But, HELL NO!

14. Are you joking? Phil is the real deal.
He is a true progressive. Plus, he knows how to balance a story and still get to the essential POV. And yes, he was a Nader guy in 2000. (So was Michael Moore. )

Phil was screwed by MSGOP and they screwed themselves at the same time. Ha ha.

This is debated. It depends on what day you look at, and whether you compare his ratings to Fox and CNN or what.

Donahue DID have 40% higher ratings then Keith Olbermann currently has in that time-slot.

4. Get them both on (Donahue and Malloy) I like them both.
Although, I prefer Malloy because of his sassiness. Doesn't "candy-coat" anything and FUNNY as hell.

7. I hope he won't. Enough "faux left". Let Conason, Mark Green,
Paul Krugman, Gene Lyons, Robert Parry the MWO people, the good bloggers have shows. I had enough of Donahue.
We need people who actually will help us get rid of W, not throw blindly accusations left and right.

9. No...
...he's too committed to the pre-fascoGOP concept of reasoned debate. He'd feel compelled to host the "opposing view". We have enough places to be subjugated to that...

25. maybe some swing voters woud tune in for a conservative guest on Donahue
If Phil Donahue has a live show on Saturdays with conservative guests, maybe some swing voters would tune in for a conservative guest on Donahue and then stay for the "Al Franken" replay.

28. No, they wouldn't...
...they'd have to be tuned in anyway to hear about it, because the corpofascist press isn't going to tell them the schedule. Sorry, my station, keep the f*ckin fascists away. They don't need another platform to shout down those that disagree, they've got a dial full of RW screed-screech to choose from.

10. There should also be 36 hours in a day.
The list grows and grows as to who should have a show on AA.

Malloy, Werbe, James, Hartmann, Donohue, Schultz.... someone even suggested me and Symbolman (not that that's an entirely bad idea :)).

Sure, they've got a few open hours overnight. But let's be realistic. There are only so many hours in the day, after all.

18. Gotta agree with you on that. I love and miss Mike Malloy.
For one thing, he does, bar none, the best Bush impersonation of anyone on the radio. NO ONE comes close, not even that guy they get on Leno.

And there is just nothing in the world like an unhinged Malloy rant. It is just so beautifully cathartic.

Or, there should be. Of course, Air America only has so many slots. I'd rather have Malloy if I can only choose one.

21. Time For New Voices
Phil's a great voice, but his time is come and gone...and radio isn't his medium. Television is.

Radio requires a lot of verbal skills...not running up and down with a microphone. It also involves the special ability to develop a visual personality without actually seeing the person. It's been proven radio people don't work well on television since they lose the voice intimacy once the listener gets a visual image.

There are a lot of great talk show hosts...past and present that either are on small stations or "on the beach"...off the air (these past 10 years have been difficult if you're a "liberal" talk show host)...who are just as imforative and entertaining.

AA should be a breeding ground of new talents...just like Premeier Radio Network (Rush's "EIB") did with Dr. Laura, Rush and now Hannity. New voices that are fresh. While Phil's a great guy, we know where he comes from and not one that will draw a new audience...especially a young one...and this is what AA is all about.

Also, Phil's gonna want a lot of folding green. Is it worth spending that much on one host that could be used to getting new affiliates? Paying Franken and Rhodes is a big expense...and probably a good reason there wasn't enough left over for Malloy. Remember, this is a commercial venture, it has to fly in the current marketplace, and right now the biggest expenses are start-up and just getting and staying on the air.

I know many great radio people who would love to get involved in this project and are frustrated as they haven't gotten responses to their emails or phone calls.

Also, hope this isn't a sore point...are AA employees union???
