Albany makes it 20 in a row
Another late budget just adds to the frustration

By Glenn Blain
Albany bureau

(April 1, 2004) — ALBANY — New York lawmakers have a new excuse but a familiar result this year: a late budget.
The state’s 2004-05 spending plan — whenever one is adopted — will go down in New York history as the 20th consecutive budget to be adopted after the April 1 deadline.

1. It's really sad...
...that the state budget has been late every single year since I was in 8th grade.

2. Last time NY State's budget was on time.
Michael Jackson was still black, and he had a new album out called "Thriller" that was breaking all sales records.

Drew Barrymore was about five years old, and was playing in a supporting role in the Steven Spielberg blockbuster E.T.

Michael Jordan was playing for the University of North Carolina, which had just won the NCAA national championship in men's basketball.

Chrysler Corporation's first "mini-van" arrived at Dodge and Plymouth showrooms.

Eddie Murphy was still a regular on Saturday Night Live.
