It is time to face a hard fact, Nader will draw at least 4 to 5 percent of the vote and in those states that are critical to Kerry. There are those who will vote for him even if the heavens fall just to voice their displeasure at the Democrats not being left enough.

would Nader draw more then 1%? He has no Green Party backing and he may not make it on enough states to be anything more then an annoyance.

2. He will be able to get on the ballots of the battleground states.

5. Green Party backing?

Why would he need their backing? He's the celebrity who made them famous nationally. And he's not even a Green, he just ran on their ticket. Most Green Parties have renounced him or pledged their support to Kerry.

3. i'm not going to argue the larger point

but this is an important criticism of your argument nonetheless. where do you get the idea that he will garner 4 to 5 percent of the vote now, without the backing of any political party, when he failed in the less-divided 2000 election when he *did* have that backing? in 2000, he was polling at about 10%. he got less than 2.5%. that's not insignificant, but it's not 4-5% either. and they weren't all democrats. less than half of them, in exit polls, indicated that they would otherwise have voted for gore. that leaves him with around 1%, overall, of a reduction in democratic votes. that isn't insignificant, again, but it isn't 4 to 5%.

it wont' be even *that* much this time around.

7. I suspect more Republicans will vote for him than Democrats

He has shot his wad with Democrats and a lot of Republican/Independents like what he has to say. I welcome his bid for President because I am sure virtually zero Democrats will give any support. A lot of Republicans are not happy with Bush* and will not ever vote for a Democrat but very well may vote for Nader as a Protest Vote. "Bring It On"

9. Actually the Democrats do quite well. ~ Remember more Democratic

votes for President in 2000 than Republican. Sometimes having the most votes just plain doesn't matter especially if the Extreme Court works against Law and Order.

don't need the Nader votes. What is the voter turnout these days? Pretty dismal. If the Dems had a message worth a damn, they wouldn't have to worry about losing at all. But since such a huge percentage don't vote, then obviously, they aren't inspied enough to get off their asses.
