Friend's email irks me. What to answer?
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 01:28 AM by eleonora
This is what he sent me. Typical hardcore repug and fanatic christian (I wonder how the hell we ended up friends...I suppose we get along as long as he doesn't speak politics with me. But since I'm on his mailing list I get stupid emails...

Here it goes...it gives me goosebumps SO one-sided/narrow-minded it is.

I really *really* want to answer it this time but I don't know how...(it's late)

HERE IT GOES:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Bill of Non-Rights
The following has been attributed to State Representative Mitchell Kaye
from GA.  This guy should run for President.
"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help
everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots,
keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the
blessings of debt free liberty to ourselves and our
great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and
establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt
ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters.
We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are
confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of
NON-Rights."
ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any
other form of wealth.  More power to you if you can legally acquire
them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended.  This
country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not
just you!  You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different
opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will
be.
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm.  If you
stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect
the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently
wealthy.
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing.
Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly
help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing
generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve
nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional
couch potatoes.
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care.  That would be
nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in
public health care.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people.
If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be
surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others.  If
you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens,
don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a
place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a
life of leisure.
ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job.  All of us sure want
you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we
expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and
vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.
ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness.  Being an American
means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is
a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic
laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country.  We don't care where you
are from, English is our language.  Learn it or go back to wherever you
came from.
(lastly....)
ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or
heritage.  This country was founded on the belief in one true God.  And
yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or
no faith at all; with no fear of persecution.  The phrase IN GOD WE
TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable
with it, TOUGH!!!!
If you agree, share this with a friend.  No, you don't have to, and
nothing tragic will befall you if you don't.  I just think it's about
time common sense is allowed to flourish
to break this up.
1.unfortunately most people with vast pools of wealth(ceo's,etc), don't acquire their money legally (enron, worldcom). Once they grab a hold of the money, they hold onto it so tightly, that the rest of us can't earn it (through labor).
2.This is the "silly libs with their PC" line. I'm not going to tell a black guy not to be offended when someone, in whatever form, calls him a nigger. we shouldn't be offended, as modern people, by intolerance and bigotry. Also, last time i checked it was religious conservatives trying to censor what we see and hear.
3.When companies make products that they know causes harm (cigs) but still peddles them to the consumer, then that company has to be held accountable. When a company pollutes a town's water source...that company has to be held accountable.These are not the "frivolous lawsuits" that the big companies (in whose pockets the repubs rest) would have you think otherwise. BTW-the frivolous lawsuits are implied in this "article".
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 01:39 AM by lolly
You don't have the right to free health care--because public housing projects are--what??? That's an argument?
How about "You don't have the right to free health care just because EVERYONE ELSE IN THE CIVILIZED WORLD DOES, but you're an American so forget it!"
"Tough!" that's an argument?
We will gladly help you along in hard times? "We" will? That's why we're stiffing the soldiers (who are definitely facing "hard times" right now) and refusing to extend unemployment benefits and trying to make it easier to move more jobs overseas? (Actually, you don't have to answer this one; when the sender's job gets outsourced, he'll probably drop this off his list".
Americans, in fact, are NOT the most charitable people around. And the wealthier they are, the less charitable they tend to be--in terms of percentage of income given to charities.
First 3, of course, are straw-man arguments--oversimplifications and distortions of others' arguments.
11. 4 is faulty
4. I love the old 'welfare bad" line. It, firstly, presumes that all people on welfare refuse to work. Many people who depend on social programs may have been laid off (job outsourced?), disabled, or have otherwise fallen on hard times. Furthermore, the amount of money spent on federal welfare programs isn't nearly as high as cons assume (about 4%, i think).
Actually, everyone is entitled to a job. This could be a reality if only government could rein in the greed of big business. For the longest time in England (pre-thatcher) the goal was 100% employment, and their number were fairly high. About education...see you can't sum this up neatly. Economic conditions create poor schools, and that creates students that can't get into schools. if you cut federal loan programs, schools become unaffordable. See, this letter your friend sent just illustrates how simplistic cons. thought is.
16. Sounds like typical libertarian crap
ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any
other form of wealth.  More power to you if you can legally acquire
them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
Actually, I'd say it's Republicans who care about new cars and big screen TVs more than Democrats do. And I can't help recalling all those Young Republican students of mine who seemed to think that I owed them an "A."
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended.  This
country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not
just you!  You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different
opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will
be.
Translation: I can be crudely bigoted, but the library had better not own any books or magazines that go against my views.
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm.  If you
stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect
the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently
wealthy.
Agreed so far as it goes. But a screwdriver that sprang out and stabbed you in the eye would be a different story, and some products come close.
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing...
Who gets free food and housing outside of rescue missions--and the military?
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care.  That would be
nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in
public health care.
Public housing looks rundown, so no free health care? Ah, the scintillating right wing wit and logic! Okay, no free health care--unless you're in the military.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people.
If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be
surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.
Translation: We'll kill you to show you that killing people is wrong.
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others.
the exception being that the U.S. can take over other countries if it so choose.
ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job.  All of us sure want
you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we
expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and
vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.
And if you can't find a job, even after being trained, we'll call you a welfare bum and tell you that you have no right to free food or housing.
ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness.  Being an American
means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is
a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic
laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
Who's demanding happiness by governmental means? Who's confused by the Bill of Rights except you?
ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country.  We don't care where you
are from, English is our language.  Learn it or go back to wherever you
came from.
Okay, well then, if you travel abroad, I don't want to hear a word of English out of you! You'd better know the local language perfectly the minute you step off the plane.
ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or
heritage.  This country was founded on the belief in one true God.  And
yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or
no faith at all; with no fear of persecution.  The phrase IN GOD WE
TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable
32. One quibble: Military housing isn't free. It's part of a
service member's compensation for work, and, in fact, rent is charged for family housing. Family housing is frequently rundown, too small, or otherwise unsuitable, or isn't available at all, so military families frequently have to live off-base, paying the same rent as civilians who earn more money.
Military health care isn't free, either, though it's cheaper than civilian care. Of course you also have no choice of physicians and you can sit in a waiting room an entire day before you're seen. Military families often resort to paying full price for civilian doctors, or used to -- now they probably couldn't afford it at all. My mother always refused to give birth in a military hospital, for example, and I'm sure a military family couldn't afford private OB charges today.
I have to speak out about this because I don't want misconceptions about military life being spread. Military kids in school always have to hear other kids, and even teachers, gripe about the military getting free this and free that, but a) not much is free, just lower priced, and b) military pay is kept low so military families need lower prices to survive. The USA has always been mostly talk about supporting the military.
Otherwise, a fine rebuttal. :-)
Show me where in The Constitution, this country's defining document, it says we are a nation founded under one true god. There is a mandate ( I think in article 6) against issuing religious tests to hold office.Don't forget the 1790 treaty of tripoli, approved by the founding fathers, that specifically states that this is not a Christian nation. Also, my right to practice my faith, or non-faith, is seriously hampered when assholes try to push their God on me (your right to throw your fist ends where the other man's nose begins).
There is no magic bullet to instill/reinstill critical thought to this person. He/she is too far gone for any form of rational discussion. Unfortunately, you haven't many options save to allow this person to spiral down until they decide to extricate his/her self from the miasma of their uber-con delusions.
Once this person really embraces his/her recovery, your discussions will again have meaning to him/her. Wait patiently for that day.
34. Rebuttal
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 03:48 AM by GTRMAN
Here's a reply for everybody who subscribes to this kind of bullshit.Send him this reply.
ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any
other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire
them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.
<Agreed: So why do the uber-wealthy corporate types seek to acquire these things and so much more for themselves while continually seeking to abdicate themselves of their responsibility to provide adequate wages and benefits to those who WORK TO CREATE THE WEALTH THEY ENJOY? I would call their multi-million dollar severance packages in their contractsin case of their fucking up a massive "wealth guarantee">
ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This
country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not
just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different
opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will
be.
<Agreed: So why is the Right Wing so adamant about banning gay marriage. When you get right down to it,that is what it is all about,the fact that the religious right wing simply finds the idea of gay marriage offensive. Don't like gay marriage,DON'T HAVE ONE!>
ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you
stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect
the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently
wealthy.
<Agreed: However,if the tool manufacturer dumps poisonous chemicals and contaminates the ground water supply causing catastrophic health problems for communities,they should have their ASSES SUED OFF!!>
ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing.
Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly
help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing
generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve
nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional
couch potatoes.
<I am getting tired of subsidizing generations of millionaires and billionaires by being taxed to support social programs to supplement the incomes of workers because of their refusal to pay LIVING WAGES AND BENEFITS.The "generations of professional couch potatoes" argument is a giant crock of shit.>
ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be
nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in
public health care.
<I don't give a fuck what your goddamn ilk is "interested in". The disparity in healthcare in this country is a direct result of CORPORATE GREED. Your fucking party has done everything from union busting to outsourcing to get us to this point,so take responsibility and FUCKING GET OVER IT!!>
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people.
If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be
surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.
<Agreed: This should include responsibility for idiot pResidents who cause death,injury etc. by sending our forces to WAR FOR PROFIT>
ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If
you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens,
don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a
place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a
life of leisure.
<Agreed: Make sure to send a copy of this article to the likes of Ken Lay,Bernie Ebbers and the rest of the Korporate Krook Konsortium that is stealing this country blind>
ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want
you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we
expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and
vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.
<First of all,stick the "gladly help" bullshit up your ass. You cocksuckers have never "gladly helped" anyone but yourselves and you aren't fooling anyone with that bullshit. Secondly,a whole shitload of people HAVE taken advantage of all kinds of "vocational training" only to have their jobs sent overseas to line the pockets of greedy billionaires>
ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American
means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is
a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic
laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.
<Agreed: You might want to forward this article to all the RW asshats who are pissing down both legs over the gay marriage issue.By proposing a law banning gay marriage,they are fucking up the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS for an entire segment of the population. If the idea of gay marriage makes them unhappy,remind them that they DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAPPINESS.
Since I am not gay,I am going to slip one in for myself on this one. My idea of the pursuit of happiness would be the ability to grow my own cannabis plants in my garden and smoke them. I might be unhappy if I don't have a green thumb and the plants don't grow,but I sure would like the right to pursue it!>
ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you
are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you
came from.
<¿Siego ya su yarda de mierda para dos dólares por hora, qué joder además quiere usted?>
ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or
heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And
yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or
no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE
TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable
with it, TOUGH!!!!
<Bullshit.This statement in itself is revisionist history. This was not proposed until the Civil War,and "In God We Trust" did not officially become the "US Motto" until 1957 when the Nation was being TERRORIZED by a madman by the name of McCarthy. No matter what your ilk WANTS,this Nation was founded on Justice,Equality and Essential Liberty. You and your ilk have NO RIGHT to try and govern anyone in this country according to YOUR beliefs. Stick that bullshit up your ass!>
(On edit: I don't speak Spanish. I used an online translator for Number X. If it doesn't make any sense to Spanish speaking folks,please let me know.)
43. Oh I love your response...........
I may have the same letter in my email today and I hope you will let me use it! I have a relative who sends me this junk everyday, sometimes, several times a day. Even though I have told him it offends me. I think he thinks it's funny. Repukes never took to heart the phrase: live and let live.
47. By all means
Use any or all,cut,paste,edit and refine to your hearts content. We are all in this thing together.
I posted that very late last night,and I wish I could have been a little less emotional and more concise,but that is what came pouring out as I read the garbage contained in that bullshit email.
BTW,what I typed into the English-Spanish translator was "I'm already mowing your fucking yards for two dollars an hour,what the fuck else do you want?"....give or take a word or two. I have no idea what actually came out the other end :shrug:
Since this idiot is so concerned about people who speak different tongues,he should use that word instead of "language", which is from the French "langage" meaning tongue. It is derived from the Latin word, "lingua", also meaning, "tongue".
"Tongue" is from the old English word, "tunge".
39. Ask your friend when America intends to live up to those standards...
...particularly when we unlawfully occupy other countries and kill their citizenry by the tens of thousands while losing thousands of our own.
40. I just got this one from my cousin
Which one's dumber? I can't decide!
NOW HERE'S A GUY WITH A PLAN. WOULD YOU VOTE FOR HIM????
This may very well be the best thought out item we have read since 9/11/01. Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan ...
What we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message.
The Robin Williams Peace Plan
I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan for peace. So, here's one plan.
1. The US will apologize to the world for our "interference" in their affairs, past & present. You know, Hitler, Mussolini, Tojo, Noriega, Milosovich and the rest of those good ol' boys, teaching them how to grow their food or get their oil out of the ground:
We will never "interfere" again.
2. We will withdraw our troops from all over the world, starting with Germany, South Korea and the Philippines. They don't want us there. We would station troops at our borders. No one sneaking through holes in the fence.
3. All illegal aliens have 90 days to get their affairs together and leave. We'll give them a free trip home. After 90 days the remainder will be gathered up and deported immediately, regardless of who or where they are. France would welcome them.
4. All future visitors will be thoroughly checked and limited to 90 days unless given a special permit. No one from a terrorist nation would be allowed in. If you don't like it there, change it yourself and don't hide here. Asylum would never be available to anyone. We don't need any more cab drivers or 7-11 cashiers.
5. No "students" over age 21. The older ones are the bombers. If they don't attend classes, they get a "D" (for "deport") and it's back home baby.
6. The US will make a strong effort to become self-sufficient energy wise. This will include developing non-polluting sources of energy but will require a temporary drilling of oil in the Alaskan wilderness. The caribou will have to cope for awhile.
7. Offer Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries $10 a barrel for their oil. If they don't like it, we go some place else. They can go somewhere else to sell their production. (About a week of the wells filling up the storage sites would be enough.)
8. If there is a famine or other natural catastrophe in the world, we will not "interfere." They can pray to Allah or whomever for seeds, rain, cement or whatever they need. Besides, most of what we give them is stolen or given to the Army. The people who need it most get very little, if anything.
9. Ship the UN Headquarters to an isolated island some place. We don't need the spies and fair weather friends here. Besides, the building would make a good homeless shelter or lockup for illegal aliens.
10. All Americans must go to charm and beauty school. That way no one can call us "Ugly Americans" any longer. The language we speak is ENGLISH.....learn it...or LEAVE...
Now, ain't that a winner of a plan.
The Statue of Liberty is no longer saying "Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses." She's got a baseball bat and she's yelling, "You want a piece of me?"
If you agree with the above forward it to friends.
Amen Brother.............
45. Article IX
...is just patently ridiculous.
If I am gay, it might make me happy to be married
BUT
I can't pursue that goal because an idiotic law was enacted to prevent it.
Article X:
Point it out to me, fucknoggin, where in the Constitution it says we are an English speaking country and, oh by the way, if you want to make it an English speaking country, you had better by God be prepared to have your ass smacked around ANY time you dangle a participle, split an infinitive or end a sentence with a preposition. If we're going to have rules, they're should be en-fricking-forced. I will glady sign up for the English Police Force. First detainee: Dear Leader.
