Bush Campaign Blasts Kerry's Bible Quote
"ST. LOUIS (AP) - John Kerry cited a Bible verse to criticize leaders who have ``faith but has no deeds,'' prompting President Bush's spokesman to accuse Kerry of exploiting Scripture for a political attack.

Kerry never mentioned Bush by name during his speech Sunday at New North Side Baptist Church, but aimed his criticism at ``our present national leadership.'' Kerry cited Scripture in his appeal for the worshippers, including James 2:14, ``What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?''

``The Scriptures say, what does it profit, my brother, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?'' Kerry said. ``When we look at what is happening in America today, where are the works of compassion?''

Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Kerry's comment ``was beyond the bounds of acceptable discourse and a sad exploitation of Scripture for a political attack.'' "

8. I just hope that we can also have torture chambers
and cool things like the rack. I mean, can't it be a really really good one kinda like the Spanish Inquisition? I mean, they really knew how to get rid of the heretics back then!! Who would be blasphemous in the face of the rack?

That's what I'm talkin about.

5. these guys have become cartoon-ish
they want us to believe Bush was annointed by God to be prez, that they don't hate homosexuals they are only following the bible, that the war in the middle east is necessary to bring back Christ, that God caused 9-11 because of the evil ways of liberals, that the government should get out of the business of education and welfare and turn it over to churches, that saying "under God" in the pledge is appropriate because the founding fathers were Christian and we are only following what they said but if a Dem uses the Bible it is for political purposes?

I can't stop laughing. . . .through my tears.

9. Hamlette, they have become ORWELLIAN
I understand your laughter. Many German Jews undoubtedly had the same reaction to the cartoonish Nazis in the late 20s and early 30s.

But this is no laughing matter now, nor was it then. Monsters are within a hair's breadth of bringing their ultimate vision into being, and as with the Nazis, what they actually want bears little resemblence to what they are selling to apathetic fools and Totalitarian Monsters.

They lie. Because True Christians likely know from which "camp" Bush comes from.

And it ain't God's.

12. there are plenty more Kerry can pick also to help quash the Bush
manipulation of religion. Kerry picked a good one for the first challenge. He just reigned in the Catholics, and those Protestants who cannot stand what Bush has done to mangle their religion. I think of Methodists first. Then the Quakers. and also even Buddhists, whose "do no harm" might fit in here with Kerry's proclamtion.

He can't very well use the "eye of the needle" thingy and was smart not to do so.

Bush is now stymied and stopped-he cannot claim to be listening to god anymore or that a god talks to him without realizing he might have to face Kerry coming on with another bible quote to knock him down and I bet we will not see anymore halos around his head in those awful, cheap, holy card type photo ops. He knows now, that Kerry is willing to challenge his overblown, bloviating Christianity.

And I suspect he really does NOT know his bible at all, so cannot come back with an off the cuff reply, immediately.

13. oh no
Misquoting the bible! Never mind iraq, global warming, starving masses and endless wars - this is far more earth shattering.
Let me see now - are we electing a priest or a president?
Perhaps Torquemada Le Chimp will be our new prez??
