Costco Using Employees in store to get Ca. Work comp petition sigs
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 04:38 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
I just came from the Fullerton Costco and employees INSIDE the store were trying to get sigs to put Arnold's work comp initiative on the ballot. I asked one of the employees "Whay are you doing this? YOu are getting signatures to trade your own rights away? You are union?"

She stated she really didn't understand the bill. I told everybody she approached not to sign it and was pretty vocal in the store about it. I told every employee I came across in the store to bitch to their union about this tactic.

Here is a related story:

The BAD things about this bill are: showing proof of injury undermines the California constitution which states the laws should be liberally construed in favor of providing benefits..PROVING injury on the job is extremely difficult since many people work in jobs where witnessing an injury is virtually impossible.

Canceling benefits for prison inmates is ALSO draconian since so many private prisons CONTRACT for manufacturing work below minimum wage thereby making prison labor for private industry SLAVE LABOR and displacing jobs outside prison walls.

Employers having too much control on employees physicians means physicians can be blacklisted if they don't say what the insurance carrier wants to hear.

I don't belong, so I don't Know. I understand they are the best treated workers in the business. Sounds like a local Mgr up to no good.

2. Nope. It's one of the CEO's pushing this
Many Costco's not all are union and they DO treat their employees well but they are also permissibly self insured for workers comp. While they treat their employees well, this law is a bad law and will actually make justice more difficult for LEGITIMATE injuries.

6. CostCo is faux-union
No kidding. Ever since they swallowed-up the unionized Price Club, they've made an art of union-like public relations with their employees and customers.

3. Isn't it nice of Costco to put up
signature booths in all of its 98 California stores. How supportive of its employees. After all, how many companies would go to so much trouble for the benefit of its hirelings. Give me a break!!!
:thumbsdown:Californians, WAKE UP, the Pod People are TAKING OVER YOUR STATE!
(haven't you guys noticed how much arnold looks like a fixed-grin mannequin.).

4. I was taken aback by this

I agree COSTCO is a decent employer as large employers go, but doing this certainly sours me on the CEO's. The reason their costs for comp are so high is because they have a lot of employees with heavy items in a warehouse store...when you have lots of employees lifting LOTS of heavy things, you are bound to have LOTS of injuries.

5. Good for you NSMA.
There was a lot of this shit going on at Wal-Mart etc. in my area when the recall Gray Davis petitions were circulating.
