Howard Stern and the FCC: Will Al Franken or Janeane Garofalo Be Next?
I like Howard Stern's radio show. I like it when Howard and Robin Quivers do the news near the end of each show. I like his celebrity interviews. I like his attitude.

Some liberals don't like Howard Stern. They may think it's degrading to women when he asks female guests to take off their shirts, or have other reasons.

Regardless, we should all be concerned about the current situation with the FCC

1. I am one who never cared for Stern
but he should have a right to say what he thinks. If people don't like him, all they have to do is turn him off, as I do with limbaugh, etc. This is a potentially very dangerous situation and the man should be allowed to say what he thinks without recrimination.

2. I AGREE
I have never been a fan of Stern's bit, but i do recognize that he should be able to say it.

I'm someone who likes Howard Stern's radio show, and I agree that it's a matter of freedom of speech.

It's only natural for someone on the radio hours a day to talk about sex during at least some of that time.

The FCC shouldn't be able to go "gotcha" and selectively drive people they don't like off the air.

The ACLU has a form on this issue, for sending faxes or emails:

4. Al Franken won't even get a glance from the FCC

His style is to hit em with facts, satire, and most importantly calmness. In other words he doesn't get emotional he uses his brain not his heart. Because of this we won't be hearing him drop any f-bombs when he hits the radio.

Howard (whom I'm a big fan of btw) goes for the jugular than grabs you by the balls. He's mean and dirty and lets loose without caring what anyone thinks. He's less diplomatic than Franken. He essentially says what Franken and the rest of us are thinking but would never say them due to the reputation damage it could cause.

5. Howard Stern doesn't use expletives on the air
Howard Stern doesn't use expletives on the air, and Al Franken is planning to do an X-rated bit in which Strom Thurmond talks from the grave.

Hopefully, you're right, and Al Franken's overall style will make the FCC indifferent to him.

I still don't want the FCC to become more powerful.

6. Well I read AL's book

"Lies" and one of thing he makes clear is that everything you say should be well thought out and never done with emotion behind it. Sort of like how Micheal Corleone says in Godfather III (yes I know the worst one but still a good line) "Never hate your enemies-it makes you act irresponsibly" or something along those lines.

Ehh Howard does use expletives on the air sometimes when he gets really worked up, at least since the last time I listened to him (about a month ago) sure not as often as Dice or Kinison (RIP) but they do come out now and then. I'm a pretty hardcore Stern fan so this isn't to bash him, just saying he does let loose a few little "oopsies" now and then, but still no reason to ban him off the air that's crap.

You know damn well those FCC suits wish they could get as many women over to their pad like Howard could.
