The Democrats must avoid any appearances that this commission is political in nature. The charges will inevitably be made (and have already started), but right now they just don't have any credibility to them. As long as Kerry and other political figures leave it alone, this will continue to be the case. If Kerry is asked questions about it he should say something like "I do not want to interfere with the commission's task to get to the bottom of 9/11" or something to that effect.

Incidentally, I believe the commission is trying to get the Bush Administration to discredit itself by admitting it did not do enough on 9/11. If they don't do this, then they will have to push further and further until the dam breaks. I can guarantee you 100% that not one person on the commission wants to push this thing as far as it can go, but I do believe that certain members of the commission (Ben Veniste for example) will make sure it is pushed as far as it must be to bring down the Bush Administration. Keep in mind, this is only the beginning. We have yet to even begin testimony on what actually happened the day of 9/11, which is when the real fireworks could potentially begin.
