1. so he admits cheney is a friend, and that's just peachy
doesn't cast the least bit of doubt as to his impartiality. certainly it doesn't cast doubt on his objectivity in installing his friend as veep.

and i'm sure it wouldn't even occur to him that a finding against cheney would reflect badly on scalia's decision to install him, either.

well, the bottom line is, his right that no one can reasonably question his impartiality. because no one can reasonably think he ever was impartial....

5. Justice Scalia says there is no need for recusal: that his mind was made
long ago seems indisputable, that he will always vote as his ideology dictates, damn the facts, would also seem irrefutable.

7. After the SCOTUS vote of December 2000, that's no surprise.

to the calls for recusal, certain republican members of Congress have written to Justice Bader Ginsburg demanding she recuse herself from any case involving abortion, because of her "affiliation with" the NOW Defense and Education Fund.

Now, If Justice Ginsburg should, after the SCOTUS decides to hear a case involving that fund, invite a key litigant or defendant to a social weekend, and should she further accept a transportation provided by that litigant or defendant, I would argue that yes, she should recuse herself.

Conversely, her mere association with the Fund, or Justice Scalia's association with the RNC or a republican organization should not automatically disqualify them from hearing any case involving such matters as the one now going before the Court.

Why he cannot grasp the difference is beyond me. Mr. Justice Scalia....The vice (p)resident is a direct defendant in a case the Court accepted to hear BEFORE this trip! If you, sir, cannot detect that enormous difference, there is more than your impartiality in question here!
