Dennis Miller tonight....
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 10:12 PM by dennis4868
I just checked into DU and so i am not sure if this has already has been discussed but did anyone have a chance to see Dennis Miller tonight when he had Eric Alterman on.

As soon as Eric said that Bush lies, Miller tuned out and just sat their waiting for the segment to end.Miller cursed during the segment saying, "I cannot wait till this fucking segment ends." He then went on to put his head down while Eric was talking and then started mocking him right in front of his face. To Eric's credit he acted with respect and kept on talking and talking the truth he did.

If this is what you call "liberal" media I really dont want to see conservative media. I feel bad for Eric tonight.

By the way, during the rest of the show Miller continued to make fun of Eric. The segment also ended strangely....it was awful!

the whole segment was very uncomfortable to watch and poor Eric could not believe what Dennis Miller was doing. When Miller cursed Erc said, "is that the best you can do?"

11. Eric Alterman was a gentleman . . .
I despise Dennis Miller and I watched his show tonight only because Eric Alterman was a guest. Both Miller and Alterman work for the same network, so I wonder if that may be one reason for Eric's appearance. Anyway, Miller behaved in a disgusting manner, just like a true right-winger. When Eric left, so did I. Later I wrote him this note:
<snip>
Tonight I watched Dennis Miller only because you would be a guest. You were wonderful as usual, but Miller was a typical right-winger -- crude, crass and contemptible. You and Miller work for the same network and possibly you had no choice but to appear on his fledgling show. Still, I beg of you, don't lower yourself to Miller's level. Don't grace his pathetic show again.

19. Miller turned because his career was going nowhere
He looked around and saw that wingnuts were making all the big bucks in the talk show game and that Bush* was polling in the 80% range.

He jumped the shark to get a piece of the action. Too bad he doesn't even have enough talent to ride the Repug gravy train.

... left in Dennis Miller. He may behave despicably toward them, but who else at Fox (or any other network) is putting Eric Alterman and Greg Palast on the air? I could not believe it when I saw Palast getting lots of air time on Miller's show a few weeks ago. I thought Palast was great at deflecting Miller's attempts to turn his progressive views into a joke. I haven't seen Alterman on Miller yet (it will be rebroadcast at midnight NY time), but maybe Alterman needs coaching on how to take better advantage of rare opportunities to appear on TV.

First, Miller was always a dick, he just used to have writers, ask them their opinion. Second (and I hate it when people say 1st... 2ndly..) He didnt invite Alterman on, his employers did. Miller is in no position to do more than deep throat the unelected evil doer.

24. dennis miller is a talentless HAS BEEN.
he is neither funny nor smart. he HAS TO resort to RW crass because he doesn't have substance to keep up intellectually with his guests.

notice he didn't DEBATE the points Alterman made. he can't. he's not smart enough. he resorted to crude behavior because he has no other options. hannity does the same when he's outwitted. it's desperate, pathetic, and very RW.

that's why his shows in the past have all failed. this one will fail too. my guess is by year's end. he's THAT bad.

911 happends under Bush's watch. There is all this evidence that has come out that Bush ignored warning of 911 and was not protecting our homeland like he should have and now you have people who now back Bush because of 911? Lets see, I went to law school and even I know this does not make sense.

23. Excerpt from this month's GQ
>> "We could deal with his smarminess, smirkiness and even his tendency to laugh at his own jokes. We could even deal with his decision to become George W. Bush's monkey on a chain - if only Dennis Miller were funny."<<

..snip..

>>"Miller's famous penchant for arcane historical and pop-cultural references has never really amounted to anything as deep as intellectualism - more a crossword puzzle savant's knack for trivia and just the right turn of phrase - but he is a smart, original thinker with a credible history of being funny. So... Dennis Miller goes right wing? Brilliant idea! Bring it on!
But...but... he's just been so weak"<<

A really good article, which also happens to outline his ridiculous swing to the right.
I couldn't have slammed him better myself!

The only time he was even remotely funny was when Barry Crimmins was writing his material for him.

Now he has to pay people to come to his shows.

Even if Miller was a liberal and did this too a conservative I would still feel the same way. I have never seen anything like it on any show ever!

I have NEVER, in 57 years on this earth, witnessed a television studio host treat a guest with such.......I can't come up with the correct word.

Did you notice what happened when Eric left the set? He got up and just walked away as dickhead tried to pat him on the back and shake his hand.
If that had been me, I would have stood up and said, "Little dickhead, how long has it been since you've had a good ass whuppin'"

All these repuke hacks are little guys with big mouths. You know the old joke. Why do republican men marry women with big knockers and small....

33. Poor Dennis won't be around much longer
His ratings are in the cellar – rock bottom – even lower than Tweety's. He's not even a has-been. He's a never-was. Even on SNL he was a one-trick pony. He never even acted in skits. All he could do was read the news and smirk. They should keep the chimp and get rid of Miller. They're paying each audience member $15 to show up.

34. I laughed at Dennis Miller last night. Eric Alterman wiped the floor...
with Miller.

Miller was a rude little bastard. Making fun of Alterman. And then, when he knew he was clearly outclassed intellectually, Miller acted like the bully who got his ass whipped but good. Turned immature.

Notice at the end when Miller practically pushed Alterman off the stage?? :-)

I'll never watch Dennis Miller's show again. Because, it CAN'T get any better for me than last night. I got to see that snarky, smirky little right wing asshole HUMILIATED. And, oh was it sweet.

our guys go on these hack shows? WHY? They know what they're in for before they go. I think it would be more effective to shun them. After all, they have nothing of substance to talk about. If we take their punch line away, they have to come up with a REAL program and will quickly lose ratings.

40. Good question...
some here at DU have said that Alterman may not have had a choice but to go on the show. I believe Alterman works for the same company as Miller and the company (GE/NBC) are trying to get Miller some attention. That is one theory. Alterman may have decided to go on because he is doing everything he can to get his new book attention. I don't think it is doing quite as well as he expected (even though I can testify that it is a great book....extremely informative and very different than the other Bush books that have been published lately).

46. what other kinds of shows are there?
Ratings? Those went out with that McDonald's motto "The customer is always right". Now all you have on the "people's airwaves" is round the clock advertising. Every segment on the "news" is an advertisement for something, whether the latest profitable poison or political candidate or devious corporation, it is all mindfucking, so dont think they are that concerned about "shares" in a wide open entertainment market (cable, satellite, that new fangled internet thingy, radio of by and for a handful of corporations, they dont give a fuck what you want because they own it all and give you what they want). As distasteful as it is, Alterman's appearance did good, even for those people who wouldnt watch it, or might have an argument with the guy, like me :)
