just remembered this
Long time ago when my kids were 10 or so, i went to pick them up at school. Son was crying becuase he had been told that since he didnt believe in jesus he would grow up to be a criminal. Needless to say my head came to a point. I stormed into the office and demanded to see the cretin who had said that. It was of course his teacher. After giving her a serious lambasting she tried to back out of it by claiming she wanted to give him some sense of morality. Why i asked her? Do i look like a drunk who beats his children? Are you implying we are molesting him? Oh no no - then what?? er...ah....
On top of that (i knew this cretin from other parents, christians, who h ad previously told her to shut up) i knew she had been divorced 4 times. I told her that i was an atheist but i was still with the same wife after 26 years - she broke her oath to love etc...till death do them part by divorcing. Has she no shame????
I enjoyed myself tremendously that day.

1. thats great!
Its always good when you can have a good yell at a religious nut. I hope that teacher was seriously punished. Teachers in public schools have no business doing that... isn't the purpose of school to, educate?... not misinform?

2. *lol* good for you...it is so often the ones who holler the loudest about
"Christian values" or "pro-marriage" or whatever, that are poorest at practicing what they preach...

3. Oh that sounds EXACTLY like one of my repuke co-workers
She's one of these "praise Jesus" types; never misses an opportunity to utter the phrase "well, I'm a Christian," or the fact that she attends church ever Sunday. She's also been married four times, is the biggest gossip in our very large organization (quite well known for this throughout), and the most intolerant and judgmental person I've ever met.

11. LOL...it would be on the tip of my tongue to say
"well, I'm a goat-worshipping satanist, and I think..." just to see the expression on her face.

Actually, it would probably raise fewer eyebrows than it does when I announce that I'm an atheist.

Disclaimer: no goat-worshipping satanists were harmed in the composition of this message. Any inferred slur against goat-worshipping satanists is purely unintentional. After all, some of my best friends...

4. I can't help it
Every single time I hear something like this, or the other stuff on this thread, I can't help thinking of the false church mentioned in Revelation.

Damn that CCD!!!!

5. religion and convicts
I remember reading somewhere (wish I had a link) that crime rates are actually higher among evangelical christians than among the population at large. Similarly, surveys show that among prison populations a higher percentage profess to be religious than among the general population. I think it is mostly an education and class thing, but it belies the notion that religion = morality.

7. Sounds perfectly appropriate
Don't know about anyone else, but the 'bible belt' mentality is that they can do whatever the F#$@ they want because they're 'forgiven'.

:puke:

10. Same thing with violent crime and STD rates, I recall.
I seem to recall that both violent crime and STD rates are surprisingly high in what is known as the Bible Belt. I can chalk up a lot of that to poverty, lack of access to health care, and the like. Still, it really burns me up when a Southerner speaks scornfully of Yankees bringing crime down to their region. Say what?!

6. Lesbian vs Christian babysitter
Guess which one screamed like a nut and made my 5 year-old son don rubber gloves to fetch her son's "lucky nickle" from a feces-filled commode?

I never believed my son's stories until his older sister broke her silence and said the religious nut had slapped them. That was it! I pulled them from her care though never confronted the Xer.

The lesbian couple were very good and one of the best of the dozens of child care providers I employed through the years.

9. I was called a *devil worshiper* by my high school english teacher.....
....because I had a Hit Parader Heavy Metal magazine on my desk one day and a lapel pin that said "bitch bitch bitch" on it and sent down to the principles office for it....had another high school teacher that said ALL modern music had subliminal occult messages in them and it would cause me to unknowingly be infuluenced by the DEVIL....yet they allwed coaches to *teach* who were sexually harrassing their female students for YEARS without ever bein' held accountable for their actions...I had told the principle about it MYSELF after it was done to me and had been done to my sister 3 years previously when she had the same coach as her teacher....just a couple years ago one of the same coaches became the priciple and wanted to BAN books in the school library...he's NOW a superintendant of another school system....heard the other day next year they plan on teaching creationism as an elective course IN ALL OUR HIGH SCHOOLS....so it's gotten much worse instead of any better...sooooooooo glad I chose NOT to have any children who'd be subjected to the insane people that run our public schools...much less the fundie private schools around here. :evilfrown:

12. This happened to one of my sons
but he was an 8th grader and handled it mostly himself. It was a Spanish teacher of all things. She finally called me in to meet with her. He had no bad reports, grades were OK, it was about 2 months before the end of school but she called me in. She had a notebook full of complaints. When I asked her why it was the first time I had heard any of this she told me she really didn't think he had anyone at home who actually cared about him! When I questioned that statement she said it was because he didn't love Jesus. She was fired before the end of school.
