CNN...comparing blue and red states (outrageous)
Schneider just had a Loooong spiel on comparing the red and blue states. Yeah, Gore states have doggie bakeries and Bush states have Walmarts.

The most outrageous line:

The blue community has faith and the red community has social justice. :wtf: Have they ever read the Bible? How do you define faith? Attending church, telling your neighbors what to think,??? Jesus preached social justice. It was his message.

I'm so pissed right now.

1. Schneider and the rest of these talking heads
have to make something up to say everyday and usually it lumps everybody in some category or another when there is diversity everywhere even in the red states.

5. This kind of thing backfires
People who live in one state or the other and don't fit the stereotype get mad and tune out the messenger.

Bush's problem is with the purple swing-states. Did the commentator have any nasty cracks about Ohio, for instance? Who does he think that will help?

Kerry and his people don't make nasty cracks about people who live in this state or that state.

6. Dear AEI Hack.. I email of the day to him..(we're penpals)

To the AEI hack..

Clinton's "morals" did not divide our country.. The 9 YEAR vendetta by Mellon-Scaife, AEI, Heritage,CATO, et al , and all their MILLIONS of dollars...coupled with their total control of the vipers' nest that is am radio ... THAT'S what divided america.. ( I did not vote for Clinton)

The red/blue map is a figment of an over-active imagination , somewhere deep in the bowels of "RightwingLand".. Look at a map that's county by county...or that's weighted by population, and you will see the true evidence..

How utterly sad that people like you, with an agenda, control the microphones of america.. And in case you are even interested, John Kerry should NEVER shut up.. In fact I hope his campaign theme song is.."Tell It Like It Is"...

guessing 'pen pals' means he does?

I used to find him innocuous .. and at times a little giddy. Now that I pay more close attention I find him because of his innocuous veneer to be a bit more insiduous.

The red states have their AM but the left has all of Hollywood. I can't believe Am is bigger than Hollywood.

8. Rethugs go to church, Dems do not.
Can you believe that shizzle?!?!?

I didn't catch the religious institutionalist that said that but that was the gist of it.

Red goes for country music, blue for hip hop. Red was for buzz cuts in the 60's, blues were hippies.

This is the kind of reductionism that the Power Elite is pushing in this election cycle. You're either for Bush or you're a hippie. You're either for Bush or your for Satan.

Keep it up media assholes, people are not that stupid and the cltural blowback on this stupid shit will be massive and long lasting.

13. I'm sure it wasn't mentioned that Red States receive way more Federal
dollars than they pay out while it is the reverse for the Blue States. Talk about "Welfare" Red States are the "Welfare States" while the Blue States pay their way. Come on Red States "Pull yourselves up by your Bootstraps" and get off the Federal Tit.

9. I think it's fair.
He illustrated the major differences between the Red vs Blue states. It was a broad sweep but if you've experience both you know this isn't far fetched. There are some serious conflicts and FAUX, Limbaugh, Freep Republic, Right-wing Leaders work hard to keep it that way.

10. Repugs have faith?
For those who are bible saavy, it seems to me that the Repugs are stuck in the old testament (eye for an eye, stone the witches, kill everyone) while us liberals have embraced the new testiment and the teachings of Jesus (those without sin throw the first stone, love your neighbor, forgive, help the poor)

just my thoughts

11. Huge difference between 'churchgoing' and 'faithful'
I used to work in the ELCA and I know more people than you can shake a stick at who freely admitted that they showed up once a week because "it looks good" or "I do a lot of business with these people" or "I pay my 'dues' here and I need to make sure they're spending 'my' money in ways of which I approve" or "I just got this new mink and this is my first chance to show it off" or what the hell ever....
I could tell you true stories about "Christians" who went to church each and every Sunday and gave their offerings regularly, who were some of the most greed-driven, arrogant, thoughtless, careless, and selfish people you would never want to meet...

23. No faith at all -- they always want proof
Right wing religionists can't stand not being certain. That's why they insist on the absolute truth of the Bible and are terrified of things like evolution that might shake their rigid belief-systems.

Faith is the exact opposite of that sort of literal belief. Faith is the willingness to keep putting one foot in front of another, even when you're walking in the dark and have no idea whether you're about to tumble over the edge of a cliff. Liberal religionists, agnostics, and atheists are united in their ability to keep on doing what seems like the right thing, even when they have no assurance of the results. They are the true people of faith.

By that standard, the right wing has no faith at all. They want proof of everything and still have to keep whipping themselves up emotionally to keep their doubts at bay. Not only are they faithless, but they're also blasphemers by the standards of their own religion, which insists on the unknowability of God.

18. I'm working on a detailed letter to my
church, the Presbyterian synod (I'm Presbyterian), and the the Interfaith Council here. I'm asking for support and expressing my concern about the divisions this causes in the Christian faith. My letter is fairly religious, so I don't necessarily want to share it all here. I think I'll get a response and maybe some help at this blatant bias.

I live in a community where a very low percentage of the population attend church, synagogue, or mosque. Those of us who do get infuriated when we're told we are not faithful enough. And yes, we emphasize social justice and helping our community.

Another reason why I support my DU friends who are surrounded by Republican freepers.

19. I watched that
Talk about lazy! They drove 25 miles outside their two home
bases - Atlanta and Washington, DC.

Of course, the rich liberals with their dog bakeries were just
outside DC,

Can't wait for the other shoe to drop, when somebody points
out that the rich liberals benefit from the tax largesse of
the rest of the country by working for the feds.

Yeay, Schneider's a real peach. He builds up a straw man (or
ten) and knocks 'em down. What skill. What talent.

21. Yeah well, Maryland is a blue state and we have lots
of Walmarts (unfortunately - what is so great about Walmart, anyway?) and as far as I know we don't have a single doggie bakery. As for faith here is a quote from the fundies' favorite version (KJV):

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
