WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!! Lloyd Doggett Survives!!
Despite the best efforts of the Repukes, Austin's liberal voice will NOT be silenced!

Lloyd Doggett, formerly the 10th district Representative (Dem, of course) Texas, had his old 10th District gerrymandered in such a way as to make it impossible for a Democrat to win. So he moved into the adjacent new 25th district, that stupid district designed to pit white Democrats against Hispanic Democrats, by takiing most of Austin's liberal areas, and forming a Congressional District running 350 miles south-southwest to the Mexican border. This all was part and parcel of splitting Travis County into 3 different districts, the intent of which was to take Austin's voice in Washington away.

Doggett's primary opponent was Leticia Hinojosa (pronounce Hee-no-hoe-sa) from Hidalgo county in South Texas, and the intent was to pit white Democrats from Austin against primarilt Hispanic Democrats in South Texas, with the goal of removing Lloyd Doggett, Austin's liberal voice in Congress.

Due to some aggressive campaigning (and some volunteer work by yours truly and bunches of others) Lloyd has won the primary for District 25. He now faces Repuke rebecca Klein in the November election. Klein, by the way, doesn't have a snowflake's chance in HELL, District 25 is 75% Democrat.

I am located just BARELY within District 25...if I moved a mile west, I'd be in Lamar Smith's district :puke:
In fact, my old apartment, 1/2 mile west of Interstate 35, would be in that district. My new apartment, 3/4 mile EAST of Interstate 25, is in district 25...so it looks like I get to keep Lloyd, and I am totally thrilled!

Let THAT be a message to you god damn piss ant puke-ridden filthy dirty rotten scoundrel freeper 'Pukes...WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!!

And just for trying, I hereby wish specially huge amount of hatred and cess-ridden filth on Tom DeLay and the Texas Repukes for trying to do me out of MY voice in Washington!!

nanny-nanny-boo-boo...you tried, and failed!! pbbbblllllttttt!!!

Take THAT, you wingnuts!!

I like to think that he will find something better suited and more rewarding to his nature. I hope he gets a really good sin-eater opportunity.

4. Problem is, 20%+ of those 75% dem votes are being wasted.
I assume that was part of the redistricting plan though.

6. Something's gotta give
What's gonna give is that we're going to make some real
progress at winning back the legislature, and then maybe we'll
get some more logical redistricting.

Houston made a good start of that tonight with Alma Allen
beating the Dem in Repug clothing Ron Wilson.

7. that was the icing on the cake, janeaustin
While at Lloyd's celebration party last night that was the news that got the second highest applause. First was Lloyd winning of course. Boy we had to stay up late to see Lloyd. He had been in the Valley making sure his new constituency to the south knew he was already on the job. They are going to love Lloyd. My Mom got to vote for Lloyd while I did not. I still worked for him though. The repukes are not going to silence us.

Absolutely great news that we kicked that trash Ron Wilson to the curb. Good riddance.

13. I Wish I Could've Been There....
At Lloyd's celebration. But I work second shift, plus overtime, so I didn't get off work till 1AM. BUT, I already have Election Day and the day after off work.

Originally, on the request form, I put down "personal," as my reason for wanting the days off, but my boss pressed me, so I laid it out for him. I told him..."Nov. 2 is Election Day, and I want to be available all day to help Lloyd Doggett. The day after Election Day, Nov. 3 I want off because, if Bush Wins, I'm gonna be too pissed off to come to work, and if Bush loses, I'm gonna be too riotous with joy to come to work!"

I thought my boss would swallow his gum when I said that, but he approved the days off. Guess he didn't want me in the office rubbing it in that Bush lost the next day! LOL!!

12. Yes...It Was Part Of The Plan
It's called "crack and pack"
They took a bunch of predominantly Democrat voters, and shoved them all into the same gerrymandered, bastardized District, in order to get them OUT of Districts that were closer to even, and they had a better chance to win. they knew damn well my area of Austin would NEVER vote a Repuke...so they decided, instead, to "crack and pack" us with the predominantly Democrat voters in South Texas, in order to pit white Democrats against Hispanic Dmocrats, the goal being to remove our experienced liberal voice from Austin in Washington...Lloyd Doggett! They failed in the attempt. Lloyd Doggett wil win easily in November. makes me wonder why Rebecca Klein is even trying. even SHE has to know she hasn't a chance in HELL in a 75% Democrat District...

8. Chris Bell lost though...
...there's one DeLay target that got smacked.

Tom DeLay is trying to put a brown face on the Democratic party in Texas, and at least there in Houston, he succeeded.

But, Ron Wilson had to go. Next - John Quitmire...

16. Rebecca Klein
Who doesn't have a chance in HELL in a 75% Democrat District. Hell, even Rebecca herself has to know she hasn't got a parayer of winning District 25, makes me wonder why she's even bothering!

You'll notice there isn't a single Dem even bothering to run for the new 10th District...the one that used to be Lloyd's, but was gerrymandered in the attempt to target Lloyd for decimation.

I'm so glad Ron wilson lost. Now we need to nail John Freaking Quitmire! It's HIS fault we got the rotten districts we got. He shoulda stayed in Albuquerque, but nooooooooo, he had to come back.

26. 10th District
That's the one I'm in now. It stretches from Austin to
Houston - more than 150 miles, and as Molly Ivins would say,
if you drove the length of it with your car doors open, you'd
hit everybody in the district.

It's 65% Republican, so no Dems ran, and my vote wouldn't
count anyway, but I did hear recently that there may be
someone willing to be drafted to run, who either has name ID,
enough money to run, or both.

At the very least, I'd like those Pubs to have to spend some
money in my district and not just win it by default.

Tell us how you really feel!

Unfortunately I'm deep in Puke territory. In fact that was one of the main topics at the precinct convention last night; how angry we are that both at the state senate level and now congress we have been stuck in San Antonio districts. And in SW Austin we are ignored by the city as well.

15. I Hear Ya!!
This is exactly why I moved OUT of SW Austin. I used to live in '45, off Westgate. But I left that area when it became too conservo-creep for my liking.

And you are right, City Council don't listen to SW Austin. Except, of course, where big-box retail is concerned...

Then again, City council don't listen to US in SE Austin, much, either. Our only advantage is that Darryl Slusher does, at least, being as he's FROM here.

no, City council only listens to those who cast their votes at Casis Elementary...you know, the guys who live in the gated community, Tarrytown?

At least Tarrytown is fulla liberals, but still, I continue to vote in favor of Single Member Districts, because I am sick and tired of Tarrytown getting all the good stuff, while SE Austin is allowed to deteriorate. When's the last time Oltorf got re-paved? I'll tell you when...the 1980's!!

If ever a road needed repair in Austin, it's Oltorf! and I live just off Oltorf.

22. I remember when they rebuilt Oltorf
Because I lived and worked over there. It was horrible and it went on forever. Sorry to hear it's falling apart again. Now I live off the end of Westgate, just a block or so away from the Longhorn Pipeline.

I agree, nothing would be better than single member districts (well, maybe shipping all the yuppies back to California and bulldozing their McMansions).

18. I have an idea NoPasaran
We're both in Congressional District 21 (puke Lamar Smith) but at least we did have a Democrat to vote for in the primary. His name is Rhett Smith and he's from San Antonio. Anyway here's my marketing pitch we need to work for this guy in our neck of Travis and start a "Vote for the right Smith in Dist 21 - Vote Rhett Smith" Or maybe "Rhett Smith, the right Smith for Dist. 21".

If we create enough name confusion maybe some of those moderate repukes actually vote for the right Smith.

ha ha

I love it, bringing in that Gone With the (flatulence) Wind.

Frankly Scarlett, I do declare, Rhett is just the right man for our Austin values. Damn that Lamar Smith, taking us back to that horrible divisive civil strife. We must rise up and defend our Tarrytown.

Oh how I wish I had some talent to do those Flash spots like Symbolman and American Stranger. Lamar Smith would be toast.

I do need to contact him and see if he's really serious about making some waves. I do like the name confusion angle. After all, the Repukes tried that against Doggett a few years ago, so turnabout is fair play.

29. Re-redistricting
And that is why we have to throw eveything we can behind
electing Democratic Legislators this fall.

If we can pick up 10-15 seats, we can get a decent speaker of
the house.

What to do? Pick up or download voter registration forms and
carry them on your person at all times.

Ask everybody you meet (especially the ones who like your ABB
or Kerry shirt or stickers) if they're registered to vote.
Many aren't, because they've moved since they renewed their
drivers license.

Stand there while they fill out the forms.

Always, always, always tell them that registering to vote does
NOT put your name in the jury pool. Your drivers license
does that.

There's no excuse, no reason not to register and not to vote.
It's too important, and by engaging these people, and
registering them, and later reminding them to vote, you can
multiply your own impact many times over.

You get much smarter, and people gonna think you're Italian!

In Texas, the Repukes don't even pretend to believe in democracy, as witnessed by Tom DeLay and the Texas Repukes, and their illegal mid-decade redistricting.

And, of course, the 'Puke-packed courts approved it...and the press reported favorably on it. I still wonder how the conservocreep rag, The Austin American-Statesman survives in a liberal town like Austin. It is not the voice of the majority here. They oughta just move themselves off to Williamson County.

(sarcasm ON)
