Good Dem theme on the gay marriage amendment today...
I like the Democratic theme I've been hearing on this.

Soundbites I've heard on CNN today.
_________________________________

"It is wrong to write discrimination into the U.S. Constitution"
- Terry McAuliffe

"All Americans should be concerned when a president who is in political trouble tries to tamper with the Constitution of the United States at the start of his re-election campaign"
- Senator John Kerry

"By endorsing this shameful proposal, "President Bush will go down in history as the first President to try to write bias back into the Constitution"
- Senator Ted Kennedy

In other words, Bush is not only tampering with the Constitution for political gain, he is attempting to write bigotry into the Constitution.

Good message, Dems. Keep it up.

2. The dems have all grown spines! I'm so proud of our party!
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 05:39 PM by kayell
They may not have wanted this fight, they may have wishy-washed around about it for years, but it looks like when pushed to the wall they are going to come out fighting for what is right.

Added: And wording it well too.

:bounce:

4. So what's up with Edwards saying he's against gay marriage
and hiding behind states rights to do it.

5. Ok, they haven't all grown spines
despite being from SC, Edwards is not my fav. Kucinich is the only one who I can fully support. I will be voting ABB (though I hate the term) in Nov. After that, the dems better fly left if they want my support.

6. I hear what you're saying.
I will be a good demo lemming and vote ABB no matter who we are left with.

DK is the only one saying what needs to be said. Too bad we are not courageous enough to hear what he is saying.

ELECTABILITY is the only issue.

3. Another theme needs to compare this proposed amendment
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 05:40 PM by Gman
to prohibition which was repealed a few years later.

Its the same people that want this marriage amendment that got the prohibition amendment through. Not the same people literally, but the same "christian" radicals.

I think we ought to go ahead and say its fundamentalists doing this. The same Carrie Nation types as the temperance movement. We know what happened with prohibition and we all know what happened with that amendment, it was repealed a few years later and condemned as a waste of time and money.

7. Divide and conquer
That is their only hope right now. They dredge up the most divisive issue they can find and try and divide the nation as if it weren't already divided by this Cabal. It ain't gunna fly no more than when they tried to make it illegal for there to be interracial marriages. It isn't what America has always stood for. We don't take rights we give them.

8. i like it - a lot - but......
.... it would be nice to have an attack on more than two fronts....

(1) discriminatory

(2) politically motivated

i would prefer to have this evil action be the one that throws the bush family out of public life forever, being accosted on all sides with powerful criticisms, rather than just the two....

besides - sooner or later the media will acknowledge the lack of public support for the amendment, and right after that they'll start "asking" whether or not the democrats are "overplaying their hand" on the issue..... that's a good time for a gatling-gun's worth of criticisms....

i'm a vengeful mo-fo sometimes.... :)
