Bush IS finished!!! He's just lost all the FREEPS!! CHECK IT OUT!!
They are as mad as hornets and sounding more like DU by the moment! Curiously enough, some of them seem to be as frustrated with the "Joe 6 packs" of America as WE are!! Could Shrub actually been the common enemy we all need to bring this divided nation together?? They believe we're kooks - and we know we're not (though, a very strong argument could be made that several of us...well, let's say we've been pushed to the edge!), and we think they're nothing but a bunch of kooks, but on closer inspection, many are very well informed and quite articulate to boot!

What's more, I sincerely get the feeling that most of them would be as distraught to see this once great republic completely dismembered by * or anyone else as any of us on the DU would be!! So - perhaps it's possible for us to get over this Palestians vs. Israeli-esque battle we've reduced ourselves to - and figure out a way to save this place for ourselves and our children - before it really is too late. Gee, whadya know - perhaps Bush IS a uniter after all!!

2. The responses to a particular Bush quote were well said
Bush said in reference to the IT sector that sometimes worker skills don't keep up with technology.

The general consensus is that IT workers HAVE been keeping up with technology and the changing industry. The jobs aren't there.

My own take on this is that many of my friends who are IT workers have certifications enough to wallpaper an entire room and continue to work for more credentials, yet there is no one hiring them.

There aren't even temp jobs.

I say we join hands with Free Republic over this. Here's our issue.

6. Why waste time wondering what Freepers think?
Yes, it's gratifying to see these people turn on one another, but let's not waste time thinking any freeper is ever going to see the light regarding the Bush family. It's no different than a guy complaining about his wife to his bar buddies. He's not going to divorce her because she nags or hasn't had sex with him in six weeks. He'll grumble some more, pick up his next beer, and start talking about the Red Sox. When he goes home to her he'll barely remember he was pissed in the first place.

They'll have their little hissy fit and then go right back to kissing his ass and screaming "traitor!" at anyone who even questions the Bush policies. They have no intellect, consistency, or dignity. Don't bother examining anything they have to say or anything they "think," because it's irrelevant. Bush is going to lose next year even with the full feverish support of all of his little mindless groupies, so there's no need to place any stakes on their waking up and recanting their bullshit delusions.

7. They're not all jumping ship.
"If your employer can find someone to do your job for less, you need to make yourself more valuable. Life is not fair. The tech industry is growing fast and a valuable skill today does not make your job secure for very long. Learn new skills. Stay ahead of the competition. It always bothers me when people complain about jobs going overseas. You do not have a right to a job because you were born in America."

I'm sure this person is safe and comfortable and has never lost a job when the plant moved to Mexico or the programming department was outsourced to India. And there are still a lot like him, who seem to enjoy having struggling inferiors to look down upon.

8. The Jobs Issue is BIG
This is the tip of the iceberg. For every freeper programmer who's been laid off, there are ten who are afraid of the same fate. Bush showed absolutely no understanding of the situation and indicated by his silence that he will allow it to continue.

Look at some of the quotes. Bush of course had some defenders, but they were drowned out by outrage and disappointment:
"I email the White House about this often. But if Karl Rove can't stick his finger up in the wind and feel the anger and resentment blowing from this issue, he must have nerve damage in that thar political finger.

"Is President Bush TRYING to convince the rest of us that he is completely out of touch with the average American? That little comment is going to cost him a lot of votes.

Mr. President, if our skills are so out of date, then why are so many companies requiring their American workers to train their foreign replacements before firing them? People are killing themselves over this issue, and our President says "let them eat cake".

This is not going to make Joe Sixpack think good thoughts about our President.

"If this is true, Bush just lost the 2004 election.

"I am disgusted there is no way I will vote bush.

"Ok I'll just ask my employer to cut my salary to 6k a year so I can be more attractive to employ. Is that what you're doing?

"So let's see how this works. We use tax dollars to train manufacturing workers how to become low-level tech workers ... and then they'll graduate and not be able to get a decent job because they've all been outsourced overseas. So I guess we'll then train them how to be Wal-Mart greeters.

"Bush is just repeating what industry leaders are telling him, which really translates to: "We don't feel like paying Americans with up to date skill sets what they are worth in the market, so we have to go to India, where the same skill sets can be bought cheaper. I can't repeat it enough: corporate America hates IT...

"He'll be a one-term president if he doesn't get off his a$$ and do something to stop the flood of jobs out of the country. I refuse to take the blame that I didn't continue to go thru college every day of my life just so I can try to catch up to the jobs pouring into Mexico, Canada, and offshore...

What did you expect? Here, the mods pull threads for violating simple common sense rules of etiquette. There, they are Republicans and you are censored for speaking your mind, unless you are in lock-step. Can't critize the Bushies.

We lambast the DLC, Nader, Dean or Kerry, it doesn't matter as long as we are moderately polite about it and don't attack fellow posters. We rule, they drool!

26. I agree with the first poster. You're too optimistic.
Many of them are thoroughly indoctrinated liberal-haters. If they hate Bush with a passion, it's because he thinks Bush has bailed on the conservative agenda, when, in fact, he's epitomizing the agenda.

They've been brainwashed by Rush to believe that tax cuts for the rich are good for them, and that conservatism helps the ordinary working man.

There may be a few who will change sides and go from Freeper to Democrat, but it won't be many. You'll probably find some of those same freepers bashing liberals two minutes after bashing Bush, and in 2004, they'll choose Bush as 'the lesser of two evils'.

I hope you're right, but I'd be very surprised.

46. More & more rightwingers are realizing Bush sold them out too!
All politics aside:
Anyone who supports our Constitution is my ally.
Anyone who opposes our Constitution is my enemy.

Republicans were once decent people with whom we disagreed on many subjects.
But they loved our country as much as we do!

(Some -the best- of them still love America, instead of just worshipping Bush - because he has an "(R)" next to his name)
"Florida Conservative Alliance Inc."
Is running TV ads complaining that the actions of Jeb and W
are neither Conservative, nor Republican.

America is waking up!

Even many Conservatives can put America first and politics last,
as we do every day!

America's left and right can fight together against the Bush dictatorship;
to restore our Constitution.
Then we can go back to arguing over the details.

Barry Goldwater was the last true Conservative.
He was thrown out of the 'Republican Parody'
for speaking the truth.

Republicans were once decent people with whom we disagreed on many subjects.
But they loved our country as much as we do!

The current leadership of the Republican Parody hates freedom of speech, hates individual Liberty, hates our sacred Constitution/
therefore hates America!

They are the common enemy.

All politics aside:
Anyone who supports our Constitution is my ally.
Anyone who opposes our Constitution is my enemy.

At some point, polical affiliations have to take a backseat to just plain securing the survival of this badly damaged republic! Restoring the Consitution is really what it's all about! The fact that neither the public nor the press is demanding this happen is incredibly disappointing but not altogether surprising, given the level of political indifference and apathy in today's American consumer-driven culture! 50. well...but...
Those conservatives you speak of may exist somewhere.. the ones who want to safeguard our constitutions and freedoms, etc.. but they are not the ones I've really ever met or talked to.

The conservatives I know spit on the constitution - they preach the values and principles this country was built on, then in the same breath lament the fact that there is no "God" in the schools.. They want the 10 Commandments in Gov't buildings.

They talk about the bill of rights, but would throw criminals in jail without due process. They talk about an Constitutional amendment outlawing abortion. They now talk about a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex union.

They want no taxes - ever - then get mad when infrastructure falls apart or their services get cut.

They send soldiers without Congressional declaration of war. They prefer things under the table, "real quiet like" (Iran contra). They talk a big game until they are in trouble, then they insult their accusers or claim they "forgot" the details.

Maybe these jokers are upset with Bush, but it doesn't mean much to me. Some of them are looking for someone even more right-wing.

But if anyone wants to wake up and really cross over, they are welcome.

52. These freepers are still selfish jackasses
Do you know why they care? Why they are pissed at Bush?

I bet at least half of the ones posting are techies themselves. And they've been driving nice cars, bouncing from job to job for years, getting options, etc.. until the last couple years, when everything falls apart.

Now, Bush has turned his back on them, on this one issue that affects them DIRECTLY.. Actually hurts their career. Their income. And they are upset.

Well, boo -freaking-hoo. How about looking outside your own life for once and caring about those who have had it rough for the last 10, 20, 30 years? the ones who never even get to go to Devry or wherever the hell it is. I hate to sound so cynical, but this is just typical to me. Just like a republican, not to give a "dang" about anybody else but themselves, and then get mad when something isn't going their way.

THese aren't our friends.. unless a few of them actually get so mad that they explore the Democratic candidates, and suddenly have an epiphany and expand their worldview beyond their own self. I'll leave the light on for them.

59. It's like the article I read recently about pissed-off vets
Edited on Thu Jul-31-03 10:14 PM by mreilly
I wish I had a link, but I don't at the moment. Basically, the article was about veterans who had proudly supported Bush but were now getting shafted by his policies. They talked about how disappointed they were in him. Glad these people woke up, but I also have to say "If you were stupid enough to vote for Bush based solely on what you thought he would give you, then fuck you, buddy. Choke on it." It's people like this who really piss me off. When it comes to voting, everything is "me me me. What can I get? What's in it for me?" The Republicans have pissed on the poor, on minorities, on the environment, on the homeless, on teachers, and on those who dare not to hold Christian beliefs for decades. That was just fine with these vets, but the minute they felt they were personally getting shafted was the minute they woke up to the kind of damage being done by a clown they had rallied behind and supported.

All one had to do was open a freaking newspaper not run by the neo-fascist right and see for themselves exactly what kind of agenda the Republicans have had in store for a long time now. And these former Bush supporters are boo-hooing because they're getting bent over the table now. Like I said, fuck them. If they want to bolt from Bush's camp that's just fine, but don't come over to my side of the fence. The only thing I want out of these people (other than them not interfering in my life in any way) is to stay the hell at home next election day and let informed people go to the polls to make meaningful decisions for next time.

Oops, the thread got deleted along with all of the rest of this loser's posts when I nuked him. This is the third account (that I know of) for this anti-war, anti-Republican, anti-Bush, anti-everything poster. His thread can stay, but he's got to go.

60. But do they ever sound so down on a winger as they do here?
I don't know because I don't spend a lot of time in Freeperville. But my experience with wingers on Usenet tells me they try very hard not to eat their own. They sound like Democrats in that thread.

Remember what set them off. Don't lose it. Use it:

"I fully understand what you're saying. In other words, as technology races through the economy, a lot of times worker skills don't keep up with technological change."

Frankly, I missed that assinine comment. I hope the DNC was paying attention.

67. I see what your saying
And I don't have a relative measure. I know it is not the first time I've seen freepers pissed at W. And I have to admit, they were freakin pissed!

Time will tell but my experience has been when the teams line up and its time to pull on the rope, freepers are pretty loyal.

68. Yes, they are. But they may be the canaries in the coal mine, too.
I'm not getting my hopes up. Just thinking that if the Dems hammer at this, the fumes will get beyond the canaries to the miners.

63. Fuck em.

Value (i.e. willing to work for cents on the dollar). And this guy loves the outsourcing!

"the time is ripe for a labor/American party to develop and compete for the center." But, hmmmm.......

grovelling at the feet of a complete and utter moron for so long, and all because they thought they might make a buck or two out of it

now it hits home - they might lose their jobs - and they utter a peep or two of protest

it didn't matter while the rest of the country and the rest of the world suffered
