1. Good thing I don't like 7-up because
this is one boycott that will be very easy to handle. And, yes, I believe it should be boycotted! There's always Canada Dry and Sprite.

Dr Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group, Inc.
5950 Sherry Ln., Ste. 500
Dallas, TX 75225 (Map)

Dr Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group (DPSUBG) rings up sweet results for Cadbury Schweppes, the world's #3 soft-drink firm. It is a leading bottler of soft drinks in the US, distributing in 21 states. Besides the Dr Pepper and 7 UP brands (owned by Cadbury Schweppes), it also bottles the lesser-known Big Red and Crush brands. DPSUBG was formed in 1999 when Dr Pepper Bottling Company of Texas and American Bottling merged. Cadbury Schweppes and The Carlyle Group own 40% and 53% of the company, respectively. CEO Jim Turner, who owns 5%, joined Dr Pepper Bottling Company of Texas in 1982 and built it by acquiring franchises. The company continues to grow by acquiring other bottlers.

Can you say military-industrial complex? The Carlyle Group takes part in management-led buyouts (MBOs), acquires minority stakes, and provides other investment capital for companies. It is particularly hawkish on the aerospace and defense industries, putting to good use the experience of its chairman emeritus Frank Carlucci, a former Secretary of Defense. Firms in this arena make up a significant share of the portfolio at Carlyle, one of the world's largest private equity firms. The company has also engineered MBOs and other capital deals for firms in such industries as consumer products, energy, health care, information technology, real estate, beverages, and telecommunications.

3. 1001 Pennsylvania Ave. NW???
I walk right by them on my way to work. Dang.

They're practically across the street from the Gothic-Deco Department of Justice HQ, one of the scariest buildings in the Nation's Capitol.

6. Not all Dr. Pepper is bottled by this company...
Check your bottles/cans. Only Dr. Pepper bottled by the DPSU Bottling company is Carlyle owned. Dr. Pepper is still also bottled by the Coca Cola Enterprises company. So don't give up your DP if you don't have to.

8. So they only own the bottler
and not the soft drinks themselves. It says that Cadbury/Schweppes owns both 7up and Dr. Pepper. C/S isn't part of Carlyle? I think both are bottled by Pepsi in Denver here.

9. I don't think C/S is owned by Carlyle
They are co-owners of DPSU with Carlyle owning a 53% controlling interest.
