Poll Makes Clear What Dem Candidates are up against re Iraq War!
http://www.boston.com/dailynews/211/wash/Poll_suggests_public_divided_o:.shtml

Poll suggests public divided on whether Bush
exaggerated, most support military action anyway

By Associated Press, 7/30/2003 20:31

Asked whether the president gave the most accurate information he had or exaggerated that
information while making his case for war, the public is split, with 48 percent saying he gave the
most accurate information and 47 percent saying he exaggerated, according to an NBC News-Wall
Street Journal poll.

But public doubts on how he made the case for war do not appear to be dampening support for his
decision to take military action to remove Saddam Hussein from power. The poll indicated that
about seven in 10, 69 percent, support that action, and 27 percent do not.

<snip>

Democrats, especially the nine Democratic presidential candidates, have been extremely critical of
Bush's approach to making the case for war, especially his use of a now-discredited claim that Iraq
tried to buy uranium in Africa for a nuclear weapons program.

But the poll suggests this strategy may not be working. Three in 10 said the Democrats' criticism is
legitimate, and more than half, 56 percent, said the Democrats ''are mostly playing politics.'' Bush's
job approval in this poll was at 56 percent, about where it's been in several other recent polls.

5. And Bush's credibility has taken a hit
I wouldn't worry that most people think the Dems are politically motivated because the public thinks everything in D.C. is political. That doesn't mean they don't there's some truth to what the Dems are saying.

7. CBS News is not dropping the ball on Bush rush to war in Iraq...
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 09:46 PM by flpoljunkie
CBS news reported that the next part of the Iraq war story will be that there was no evidence of a link between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

They interviewed Rand Beers, former head of counterterrorism in the White House, who quit recently because the Bush administration focus turned from hunting down Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda to Saddam Hussein and Iraq--thereby making us more vulnerable to terrorism, not less.

Rand Beers worked for Reagan and both Bushes and is now a national security advisor to John Kerry.

3. The strategy is working, but it takes time for this stuff to sink in
Also, when we are on offense, we don't have to worry so much about defense.

6. They already are changing
Bush is in the mid-50s. He got virtually no bounce from the death of Saddam's sons or the tax rebate checks (haven't they already been mailed out?).

8. You'll find this dispiriting (Harris Poll summaries for '03)

If you don't want to follow the link, I'll sum up: Americans are idiots, Americans are idiots, Americans are idiots, At least we hate spam, Americans are idiots, Americans are idiots...

They control the media and the public are lazy and apathetic. On the other hand, Bushco are such flaming fuckups that unless the economy miraculously turns around on its own, he's still likely to follow his Daddy into one-term wonderhood.
