1. My roommate got one too!
For $24.00.

The check, and the letter from the government, are going to be reprinted in the next issue of the Michigan Socialist.

The "payoff" touted was $400.00 per kid... $600 must be for more than one, or they oopsed :)

8. The office conservative...
Who thinks George is a great guy asked me if I had gotten a rebate check from "his boy, George" like he had. I told him no since I have no children, and I told him that he hadn't either because it's more than likely an advance against next year's taxes. He didn't like hearing that.

11. in one pocket out the other
Any rebate I get has already been given to Bushco's corporate sponsors in the form of higher energy costs due to price manipulation and gouging that was aided and abetted by the Cheney/Enron energy commission.

13. No Offense Intended To Folks With Kids
But, your post brought up this pet peeve. There is already a deduction on taxes for dependents. Why the heck should those of us without kids being paying extra for people with kids, who can afford the extra 6 or 8 hundred dollars?

I love kids and all. I have no problem with folks that have kids. We wanted kids, just couldn't have them. But, this thing of giving tax credits, on top of deductions from income for those children, is a double dipping that penalizes childless people.

It's just wrong and how a party that thinks taxes are too high can justify punishing childless people (because our taxes are, by definition, higher than those with kids) is beyond me. Either taxes are too high on the american people or they're not. This is typical Republican duplicity.

Sorry for the rant and the semi-hijacking of the thread. TlalocW's post just reminded me of something that ticks me off.

The Professor"

I, too, am child free. I look at what I pay in payroll taxes and what I get back every year (nothing). I hear my co-workers talk about the THOUSANDS they get back because they get this huge government subsidy (deduction) for each kid they had. It ticks me off. Now BushCo in an attempt to buy the votes of suburban voters with children is giving them a government hand out.

I have no second income to help me. It is only me. No additional deductions for me that's for sure.

People with kids will say how much it costs to provide for them which is true but is it MY responsibility to pay MORE in taxes because you chose to have a kid or two?

Single, non property owning childless people by far pay a greater percentage of income in taxes than anyone else. Who will speak up for us?

I was irate in 2001 and even more so now.

This is Goddess40's mom. You're lucky. You got $16.10 more than I will get. Senior citizens get zip. However, I am looking forward to paying more for Medicare! How lucky can I get?
