Would a 'parasite' care so much? (DUer gets Correspondent of the Day)

Recently I had the misfortune of hearing a person who apparently makes a grotesque amount of money doing nothing other than talk on AM radio directing terms like parasite, deadbeat and freeloaders specifically at teachers who are protesting to protect their right to bargain collectively for wages and benefits in America's heartland. Basically he was attacking the people for the purpose of division, rather than talking about the actual issue.

Last Sunday my daughter was hospitalized with complications from strep throat. I received a call from her kindergarten teacher asking if she could visit our little one in the hospital. She also knew a doctor at the hospital who would have observed the procedure in the operating room had my daughter's condition warranted it, if for no other reason than to put my wife and I at ease. I informed her that we were now at home. Our girl had been discharged earlier that day. The teacher then asked if we needed dinner or anything; everyone at the school wanted to know what they could do to help. The teacher also asked if she could come by our house the next day to see our girl, her student.

On Wednesday afternoon, she came by our house for over an hour bringing a gift that she bought with her own money, our girl's Valentines from Monday and a poster with all of the class's handprints and get-well messages. The poster was laminated so it will last forever. Her actions will last forever in our hearts.

Now someone please tell me who the "parasite" is.

We are highly skilled and most of us care a lot (before we burn out, which unfortunately, happens way too often). Quite the formidable combination. Unfortunately, we are still predominantly female in these occupations and somehow we manage to keep ourselves down, Goddess knows why?

The uber rich must be so proud of their ability to pit worker against worker. A strategy that has always worked, unfortunately. Hopefully, not this time, but we do have an uphill battle.
