2 of Arizona voter's GOP picks may actually aid Dems

Ben Quayle's apparent narrow victory Tuesday in a 10-way Republican primary and other election results may complicate GOP efforts to regain dominance of Arizona's congressional delegation this year.

*snip*

But suddenly, uncertainty has grown for the GOP in some districts.

In the GOP-leaning 3rd District, Quayle was holding an unofficial lead of fewer than 3,000 votes Wednesday, having captured just 22.6 percent of the vote despite hard-hitting attacks over his links to a racy website. A wounded Quayle, the 33-year-old son of former Vice President Dan Quayle, could put Republicans on the defensive in the race to succeed retiring veteran Rep. John Shadegg, R-AZ.

In southern Arizona's 8th Congressional District, outsider conservative candidate and Iraq war veteran Jesse Kelly's upset of former state Sen. Jonathan Paton may prove a boost for Giffords' re-election chances. Many national party insiders and political handicappers considered Paton the more formidable potential challenger to Giffords in the Nov. 2 general election.

but then, this is Arizona, Wingnut Central!

Here's hoping our Dem candidates won't take anything for granted and will work hard to win.
